Plastic cover on engine, worth removing?

Will removing the plastic cover on the engine keep it running cooler? I know it looks nice, but it seems like it retains heat.

mine are off, and mine is supercharged. I think it is just for cosmetics.

U talking about the fuel rail covers? Not sure about heat issue but they look to good to take off, if GM engineered them to be on then I would leave them. Try running them without and then replace them on same day same temp and see if it makes a difference, I bet it doesn't make any difference at all.My 2 cents worth

I have always thought that car manufacturers put engine covers on to keep people from "tinkering" with the components. If you look at most new cars today, many have engine covers that cover (and overlap) the entire engine.

The LSx covers are more for looks that holding in heat. I had my covers painted to match the body color:

I have since painted the coolant expansion tank and the windshield washer container in the same cover. None of those pieces show any issues with underhood heat.

Doubt its really "worth" removing for any benefit, heat or otherwise. I didn't put mine back on when I did my winter work on the car as they don't appeal to me.
The only negative impact I could see is water, but I doubt that's an issue, particularly in such a dry area as I live.

Covers

take off .....they just trap the heat and make the engine temps hotter. If u g to a cruise just slip them on..

Some years ago I drove to Detroit and bought a specialty car from a "GM Engine Bay Designer". His sole job was to make engine bays "attractive". Reasoning that they impede heat dissipation, I left mine off.

I had read somewhere that the fuel rail covers were installed to dampen the noise of the valve train. Could be rumor don't know. I know my Camaro didn't have them but my Gto and Vette did. I don't leave them on anymore.
