C7 Grille Retainer GONE

Hi:
I used Pro Protect, which is a rubber based application in a spray can. I meticulously masked of the chrome strip which has been identified as the retainer and masked of the complete front end with Frog tape and black garbage bags (new). Applied three separate coats, waiting 20 minutes between coats. Easy peasy turned out nice.

Mission accomplished.

Looks good:thumbs:

Plastidip is also a very popular product for blacking out many parts. This is probably a competing product.

Have not used on my C7 but used a good bit on my CTS-V. It did tend to peel if you lighly rub against but also makes it easy to reverse if you change your mind later.

15 minutes and less than $15.

That looks good! When the new C7s came out, the very first thing I noticed and thought was ugly, was the chrome retainer across the front... I knew it would be an easy fix though. Here was my fix:

Nice solution for those who do not like the chrome so called retainer.

I agree 100%, this is the permanent solution to the retainers:

All the different methods for "eliminating" the retainer look work pretty well. The reason I went with electrical tape is that it's so easy to reverse if you, or a future owner, decide to change it back to original look.

A few more $$$ for Race Mesh, but I absolutely love the look. This is the 'Black Chrome' and I haven't seen another one like it yet...

Same here based on feedback in earlier threads. Holding fine after 2-3 months.
