68 convert deck lid question

I have searched hundreds of photos and diagrams with no luck. The convert deck lid has a 1/2 inch hole on each side. Mine has no trim or apparent use. What is supposed to go there? RA

Thats for your hardtop mounting. An insert, bolt anchor, goes in there secured by a nut. The sides of the hardtop get secured to it by bolts.

"Overtightening" must be the reason my project doesn't haven those holes.....someone must have snapped off the fiberglass and repaired the areas without holes.

They only added the holes to cars that were ordered with a hardtop.

Thanks for the reply. Should have thought of that. I do not have the hardtop. Like many other pieces on this car it has been lost over the years. I have some rubber grommets that may block off the holes. Fortunately the NOM 454 cu in engine and rest of drive train were either really well maintained or recently replaced, New paint helps also, otherwise the car would have been an unwise purchase. Now it is just a lot of work! RA

This is the side bracket through which the hardtop is bolted to the rear lid.

Paul, I don't have a hard top for mine, but I think I will get those fittings as they look better than just the hole.
Thanks
