Corvette isn't a hyper car... All that tech and it can't run more then 40 50 miles..electric cars sure have a looooong way to go...I won't see one in my lifetime...on to the next fail |

I know all about electric, I have a Tesla too, it's sometimes nice to have the 0-60 performance of a Z06, but with ZERO noise, and the torque is fantastic too

I have thought about this. A hybrid LTx, still 6.2, minus supercharger, plus batteries, KERS, and no DoD/AFM, hooked up to a TR6060. No need for that 7th gear anymore. Figure it makes the same power, gets the same MPG, and as a fun little gimmick, gives you a 10 mile EV range for when you have to sneak out of the house or dodge the fuzz.
Think Honda CR-Z, just scaled way the hell up. I'd put a big cam and some 2" long tubes on mine. |

The motor side is already MUCH better than any IC engine out there! massive torque across a wide operating RPM reduces the number off gears needed, or even totally removes the need for them. Much easier to package than an IC engine.

For comparison, the 4.4kWh lithium-ion battery developed for the Prius Plug-in fits under the rear cargo floor and weighs 180 lbs and the nickel-metal hydride battery of the third generation Prius, which has a capacity of only 1.3kWh, weighs 93lbs. Mount that under the hatch floor. Electric motor at the flywheel/flex plate, takes the weight from the top of the motor to the bottom of the motor closer to the center of the car. The shipping weight of a TVS1900 kit with heat exchanger is 125lbs. Add a couple of gallons of coolant and call it 140lbs. That weight sits on top of the motor and at the front of the motor. High and far away from the center. Hybrid Corvette may weigh more than an LT4 Z06, but the weight will be in places where it will not hurt the handling. |
Hmmm now there is an idea for the GM engineers. Inter rate the electric motor into the ear of the diff. Hey presto a front/mid/rear engined corvette! :)
Seriously though if you are doing a hybrid system, these things need to be mounted at the rear and integrated in the gearbox. Batteries are modular and can go anywhere as long as it's low down and in the middle of the car. |
