Manual Hood Light Switch

Has anyone taken the time to install a manual hood light switch. Would you bother again and how did you complete the install.?

Thank you for you input. Be safe, go fast. :D

Most of the Corvette accessory catalogs have harnesses for the underhood lights that use a manual switch. It's a true plug-n-play setup. Try Mid America for a harness.

Thanks Nick!! I need to find some time to hit your catalog and find other parts to consolidate a larger order. Maybe front and rear lowering kit for my 95

I removed the entire wire set up. Those two lights are nothing against a LED flashlight.

Good ****ing idea too, or just take out the bulbs... or replace with LED lights so they project decent light. How did the final LED setup in your car come together, did you do all or just the front fog and headlights?

Now I have to thinking to do... :toetap:

I put in the Mid America light switch kit years ago. Easy installation and everything needed to do the job in one kit. The black wire loom that came with the kit matched all the other loomed wires I've done in the engine bay. You can just see the red tipped toggle switch under the light.

I just pull the fuse located by the left front side marker light! You could just solder a switch to two fuse blades and insert that in place of the fuse or in series with the fuse.

Perfect, thank you. I just happen to have that side marker light out to refinish a clouded lens. The fuse is even labeled 'engine lamp fuse'. Doesn't get any easier. Also black 95 here  thanks for helping us noobs along, even with the easy ****.

Does anyone sell an led lamp conversion for the factor hood lights? I know you can change the bulb but wondering if someone makes a multi led light to replace them.

My '95 takes a #212. I am sure I got them at O'Reilley's Auto Supply. They are a Pilot brand bulb white #578/212-2 which also fits 211-2, 214-2, 560, and 569. If I didn't get them at O'Reilley's, I got them at Walmart.

I put a kit in last year similar to this one: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...late-1996.html

Plug and play and prevents a mechanic from leaving the hood up over the weekend and forgetting about it and running the battery down (DAMHIK and it wasn't me).

Takes longer to run the wires than it takes to hook it up and simple pushbutton switch to turn them on and off with the hood up.

That is what I do also.

It is quick and easy. Maybe 10 seconds to unplug and remove the fuse.

Cliff Harris 10-25-2015 12:12 AM

My car doesn't have a fuse. That must have been added in later years...

This is an easy fix. About 15 years ago I cut the hot wire on each side going to the lights and installed a $3.00 toggle switch in each wire. The lights are always off. If I want them on I flip the switch. Never have had any problem with them.
