Before and after X-pipe dyno results!

The car dyno'ed was a SGC 368 with cams and the exhaust used was a new Triflo system with restrictor plates removed.

Before: 441.3 rwhp, 383.9 rwtq

After: 452.6 rwhp, 405.2 rwtq

Difference of 11.3 RWHP, 21.3 rwtq.

Big gain for just a piece of pipe!

The peak numbers do not tell the whole story however. The power and torque gain was throughout the entire power range.

For example at 4600 rpms the difference was 22.9 rwhp and 26.5 rwtq.

If I knew how to post pictures I would be happy to display. Please help me.

I do sell these X-pipes which are made by Stainless Works for 299.
I am currently experiencing difficulty with my email so either instant message or call 270-782-0072. I will be placing an order soon.

Steve,

That's one hell of a TQ. gain, very impressive.
I put the B&B on my car last week, but, it has the restrictor plates in it, so i have to now take it off and have them cut out, also, need to put in an "X" pipe & see what goes here.
If you gained 20 ft lbs & 11 rwhp on a 368, i would bet a 415 would be around 25 ftlbs & 15 rwhp, which would be awesome, that's an easy 1/10 in the 1/4 & 1 MPH faster too, doesn;t sound like much, but at a 120 + MPH, thats a car length.

Enjoy the ride, it' worth the wait.

Kurt.

the car with all i've done to it,which is ported&polished plenum
injector housings Marc Randolph chip Jeal headers tri-flo
system and X-pipe.The car was taken to performance technicle
center in ELk Grove ILL. The car came Off the street got on the
dyno the first pull it made 389.3 rwhp. AS opposed to without the
X-pipe It made 370.0 rwhp.
The X-pipe is definately the way to go. :chevy :jester :D :D

Re: Before and after X-pipe dyno results! (BERTZR1)

The gains on the X-pipe.. are they over the Triflows with its resonator?
Any tests done over just 3" straight pipes?
Thanks

Re: Before and after X-pipe dyno results! (xsmph)

Yes, XSMPH the tests were done with the tri-flo resonator, also
I forgot to mention that it was very hot and humid out that week.
I've never done any tests with straight through pipes, but the X-pipe
does help scavange exhaust.Even with straight pipes you should
see some hp increase.
:chevy : :D

Re: Before and after X-pipe dyno results! (LIMEY)

Limey,

I would imagine that the HP and torque gains on a big cc motor would be more. Those restrictor tips on you car are killing you considering you have a 415. I bet you could pick up 7 plus 15 or so with restrictor tips out and x pipe.

Re: Before and after X-pipe dyno results! (LT5PWR)

Guys,

You know what is really exciting about this deal is this.

These are before and after result with a B&B, You're using a B&B 3" system & getting XXX RWHP, then pulling out the plates & resonator, then dynoing the same car with the B&B and gaining these HP & TQ. Numbers.

Well, what’s interesting for me is, I have never dynoed my car since removing the 1 7/8 " headers & 2.5" corsa's.

The last time I did, with the old system was 534 RWHP

I wouldn't mind betting that I see a 30 + RWHP gain on my exhaust mods alone. That would be awesome.

The cars going to ford speed in Largo on Wednesday morning for some new runs.

I'm not doing a before and after gains with the "X" pipe & plates removal, we already know they work, I'm just going to pull them plates out today & install the "X" pipe, then we'll see what kind of gains these systems are really capable of.

I'll keep you posted.

Kurt.

Limey,

I am sure you will be pleased with your new dyno results.

Hi!

You've got me interested in an X-Pipe. Do you sell one that will fit my 2.5" Borla system? Does it replace the resonator?

I assume my results would not be as dramatic as yours since my engine is essentially stock.

Thanks,
- Kevin

Yes its back from the dead....

What are these restrictor plates you guys are mentioning? I have the 3 inch B&B system and have been thinking about replacing the reasonator with an x-pipe.

The car is far from stock, and I think the reasonator is a choking point (might be wrong).

Rick,

I guarantee your resonator is restricting your power - it necks down to 2.5 inches on the inlet & outlet. Huge restriction. As for the restrictor plates in the mufflers - this was done to reduce resonance in the B+B system - Early systems didn't have them, later ones did. I'll take a look @ ur system next time I'm up visiting.

Interesting thread - I had just bought my Z back then - was totally stock. Not one person in this thread still has their ZR-1 today. The days of building up these cars are long gone.

I wouldn't go that far, there aren't as many big cubes being built but they're still being modded

Headers aren't exactly sexy or exciting - I'm talking about the time when these cars were the big dawgs in town. Anyone doing more than a top end on these cars needs their head read.

I've had my car since 99 and i've met you a few times and been for a ride in your brothers car when it was still a 368, I remember the old days. and I agree that the time for big cubing these cars has passed, but there still are people who are modding them

:iagree:
I'm getting ready to have Pete (Chicago) port/polish, Headers, exhaust, 4:10's, chip tune, rebuilt ZF, C5 brakes, Callaway AeroBody etc. Can't wait to get it done over the Winter....and I'm just building a daily driver. :D

Ehh, I think people aren't dropping as much coin on them, but that seems to result in some more interesting stuff happening. They seem to be getting more cost effective to do.

Now it looks like 430-450whp is possible for fairly cheap on a stock bottom end. Just some porting and reground cams. That's the same power as Ricky's 2+ year in the making 421ci build is putting down, and the LT5 would still be easy to tune and purr like a kitten.

It wasn't that long ago $20k in a 368 would be required for that sort of power.

Not knocking you Ricky, just remembering how you'd rip on Z's for being expensive and expensive/impossible to build up. It really seems to be changing. The cars are getting cheaper, and they are getting easier/cheaper to put into the mid 400's power-wise. Plus a ported stock displacement ZR-1 would still have good resale, while a big-cube gen 1 C4 won't.

Also, Rick, you can find some info on the B&B and how to identify the changes over the years here:
