1960 L-type seat frames bent?
 

Both driver and passenger seat frames lean back further on their left sides, driver is worse than passenger side, no apparent kinks or bends. I didn't notice anything odd when they were together and in the car, but wasn't looking that closely either. The car has 95000 on odometer and sat since 1970. Should I straighten them? Chip:willy:

That frame sure looks bent to me. I don't know if I have any pictures (on my old computer), but I sure don't remember my frames looking like that when I redid my frames and seats a few years ago.

Just type in "1960 corvette seat frame" in Google and then click "Images" and you'll see a number of pictures there. Set your frame at the same angle as the one in the picture and that should confirm if your frames are bent or not.

Terry thank you for the reply and suggestion, I couldn't find a pic that would show that angle. I see no bent parts, and the pieces that create the bend are not distorted. I can't be the first to run into this. Chip

Take a look at the second picture. Although it's looking from the bottom up instead of from the top down like your pic, I think it gives a good perspective of the angles of each upright. On the Ebay pic, each upright looks like the same angle from the base, whereas your has an obvious difference.

I understand that your frames don't look to be damaged, but your frame just doesn't look like I remember my bare frame. I do remember my frames were stacked on each other before I restored them and my recollection is they stacked tight against each other. If the outboard upright had a different angle on each seat, they wouldn't stack that way. So that's why I think yours have somehow been bent.


Hopefully someone who has a bare frame will look at their frame and chime in here.

Thanks again Terry, they are not both bent on outboard side, driver is outboard , pass is inboard, kind of how the car torques. Chip

Here are some shots of the frames from our '60 during the refurb process. I think your frame backs look pretty twisted. Note how in the picture in the upper right (below), the seat frame sits nicely against the bulkhead behind the seat. I would imagine that yours will not lay flat (seat back parallel to the bulkhead) against the bulkhead. If you lay the frames down with their backs on the floor, both sides should lie evenly with each other. At least that's how mine were.
