Shipping a Corvette outside the U.S.

Anyone have any experience shipping a car sold outside the US? I just sold my '79 to a guy (maybe gal?) who lives in the Netherlands. Sold through eBay and the buyer has a good track record. He says he will handle shipping arrangements and wants to wire transfer the funds for the purchase to me. I've seen these types of transactions done on TV before but have no idea what to expect. Any input greatly appreciated.

Hi m,
Look for recent posts by member…. brit vet …. , he recently bought a car in the U.S. and it's on it's way to Great Britain.
He wrote some interesting details about how it was handled.
Regards,
Alan

I have bought already 9 classic vettes over the years and shipped them to Europe.

The buyer here is the one to face the highest risk, not you. Seller is the one that could "disappear" after receiving the payment. Don't ask me, how I know...

I bought both my Corvette's in US, from 2 different sellers, one dealer, and one private.
I would gladly buy in US again.

I would say, you will of cause will get paid full upfront, so why not?

I bought 6 cars from US through the past years and got them shipped out, and I agree with Linas, its a HUGE risk for buyer, and almost no risk at all for the seller, only you need to get your full agreed price in your account in full before releasing the car. What I do personally is that I pay a deposit first, then I call an international shipping agent in US to arrange shipping, they will ask me about the name, address and contact no. of the seller, and as soon as I get a confirm from the shipper, I wire transfer the remaining amount to the seller. The shipping agent will do all the paper work for the US Customs to export the car, so you are done as soon as they pick the car up from you. Good luck with the sale.

I sold a car overseas. For me it was as simple as any other sale. Funds were wire-transferred and cleared in two days (don't believe the movies where it's instantaneous). The buyer arraigned for the pick-up via car transporter, and the car was dropped off at the port.

Thank you for all of the wonderful input. I'm looking forward to completing this deal and beginning my search for my next Corvette. Still deciding if I want to stay with a C3 or try out a C4/C5 for a change of pace. Thanks again!!

It's been a few years however I sold one to a member in the UK. As everyone said it was pretty simple. Get the funds then let the purchaser arrange for pick up...not the other way of course.
