Could this transmission be installed in a C3?

Not without major surgery to the chassis and body. There are a couple of "resto-mod" chassis builders that incorporate the C5 drive train. Because the transmission is located in the rear however it requires modification to the tunnel and rear compartment of the car.

Good luck... GUSTO

Major modifications,

T56 from a camaro goes in fairly easily -

Good luck,
Frank

I just test drove a 69 with a BB and 4-speed. It needs OD some kinda bad. Not sure of gearing in the rear but the current owner thinks it is 3.73 or 3.55. Either way, it sure could use the OD. Other than when doing some spirited driving it doesn't need first and third. It can easily take off in second and shift directly to fourth. The engine is not original but man does it have some power. Owner thinks 500+. He ran an 11.85 at 127 on street tires in it a couple years back.

I'm going to research the T56.

I found this...

Does it have to be from a Camaro? This is from a 2000 Trans Am.

That would work.

I have 3.36 gears and it's fine. At 70 I turn 3K.

Sure it would be nice to have one more gear, but I don't go over 70 often.

That would work, just remember it is an LS transmission and you will need a flywheel and hydraulic clutch setup.

There are several different versions of the T56 including an LT SBC, and GTO. All are a little different and you need the right parts for each.

I have a double overdrive TR6060, and it is great

I have a t56 magnum in my C3 now with a tube chassis and C4 ZR1 suspension. It was a tight fit and to be honest, with the 603hp and 540lb/ft of torque I can't even use the 6th gear unless i'm doing over 80 mph and then I'm only at 1800rpm.
On the road race track on the main straight, I still only got up to 5th gear and that was at 125mph and still had more rpm to climb.

There are many other options that are much easier installs.
T56 for new gen cars or T56 magnum new units.
Silver sport is now providing perfect fit kits with all the parts.

My did my install from a number of vendors for parts.

Here are my notes on the install in a 78 corvette.

Easily?

No, but anything is possible with enough money.

Since the C5 and newer Transmissions really don't fit any muscle cars easily I'm under the impression that people are converting them for use in a conventional mounted trans. I'm not sure if the entire main case needs to be changed or just the ends. One way or another it would be a lot of work to build a usable trans.
