Overdrive crank dampers
Thinking of getting an od damper. Who makes the best one? What size is recommended? Thanks folks.

IW / ATI
What setup are you running SC wise? |
OEM 6-rib
|
A&A supercharger setup?
|
Yes sir V3 Si. Have a 3.4" for the blower should make around 13.5 psi. I'm afraid an od damper might over spin this little guy. May keep the 3.6" that I currently have.

I'm assuming you have a GS, so just know that if it's a manual trans (dry sump) then it uses an LS7 style pulley. Aren't many options that I've seen. If it's an auto, just about any pulley will work.

You are correct, it's a manual GS. What do you run on yours?
I think oldmotorhead has one of these that he's about to install on his car. Hopefully he can chime in. Merry Christmas, BTW. |
^Merry Christmas to you as well!
That's interesting. Wonder why they have it listed as 7.64? I'm afraid 8.25 may be too big for my application. |
Hard to beat those bang for the buck wise!
I've had a cheapo summit racing balancer for a year now without any issues. Standard diameter though. |

The Summit/TFS balancer like the one you are running looks like a good deal too.
They are a great option as a 6 rib replacement (you just use the forward 6 ribs of the 8) but if you decide to go to a real 8 rib , it will need to be replaced again. The 8" Innovators West balance is what we use. I "think" an 8 1/4" will hit the water pump on a C5 or C6. We go way bigger on C7. |
What Andy said. Iw if you want a nice 8 rib setup, otherwise do a cheap summit one.
|
Do you have to do a direct drive 8 rib set up on the C6Z or can you do an 8 rib upgrade that runs everything the same as the 6 rib, just with the wider belt? I do like how simple the ECS 6rib belt system is, I would just like it to be wider.
|
You can do the 8 rib upgrade on it's own (without direct drive)
The tensioners/idlers on the ECS kit all come already setup for 8 rib setup. Just need to upgrade the other parts.. alternator, power steering, head unit pulley and I think an idler near power steering pump. |
The PowerBond 8 Rib does have the 2 extra ribs in the outward side towards the radiator - works just fine with an 8 rib DD (at least with the ECS set up)

I take it that yours doesn't hit the water pump pulley? Are you running the stock LS3 WP? How hard is it to get the belt on? I just looked at mine and it looks like there's about 3/4" of space between the stock 7.5" balancer and the WP, so that will put the 8.25" pulley ~3/8" closer to the WP, which doesn't leave much space to get a belt in there. I note that ATI also makes an 8.23" 8-rib as well, BTW. |
ATI makes an 8% or 12% overdrive. Running the 8 myself.
