Although I no longer own a C4, I did have an '88 coupe that I loved. One of the best cornering cars I've owned. A great car for the money and beginning to get the attention they deserve.

Where the C1,2 and 3 were evolutionary, using many existing components and technologies, The C4 ushered the new generation of electronics, system integration, emisions, suspension, engines, and complexities. What comes after is again, evolutionary taking many cues from previous models. My thinking is that somewhere down the line, maybe not so far down, the next big step will be all wheel drive, mid engine, V6 turbocharging and perhaps hybrid drives. 1,2,3, wait and see.

The C4...

Raw
Bumpy Car feeling
Not slow, but fast enough
Cheap
Great DIY car with fuel injection
Old enough to be a classic, and young enough to keep up

My first Vette after years of disliking them for all the stereotypical reasons. When I actually drove a '93 and discovered it totally dominated the Asian and German sports cars that I had been driving for years, the die was cast. It took until 2014 to get Vettes back to a proper driver's cockpit.

Long live the C4...

Love the C4...just love it. And the platform lends itself to being a great track car. And for the money you can get into one with it's a steal.

My '88 in all of her glory. Should be back on the road by this spring.

yes! i agree with this.

not designed for some golf course type or someone who doesnt want their soda sloshed all over the place on the way to palm springs.

its for people who want to feel and hear the car.

i work for a tire company and asked our test drivers what they felt of the c4 vs. c5. they had a 96 grand sport at the time. they loved it and fought over it.

said they could turn a slightly faster lap time with their c5 z06, but could get into trouble quicker without even realizing it. - im not sure if this was with or without the stability control on, but i gotta assume its on in competitive mode.

they felt the c4 communicated its limits much better to the driver even without all the electronic nannies

Kudos to Patrick Morgan

Thanks for writing the article

I agree :D

I grew up with the C4, so that will always be the generartion that first comes to mind when I hear the word Corvette. My first Corvette was a 2001 ZO6, which I bought off the showroom floor. I owned it for a couple years and liked it a lot but knew I really wanted a Zr-1. A few years later I finally bought my dream car my 94 Zr-1. Fast forward a few more years and I have added a 66 coupe and a 70 convertible but my 94 is still my favorite.

Love for the c4 :D.. Only one thing I want to add. When they mention the zr1 wasn't there also a zr1 package from 1970-72? I know it doesn't boast the same high performance or label as the c4 zr1 but a package is a package nonetheless (my 85 is a z51 for example but it doesn't boast it like the base c7 does). Just my thoughts.

:iagree:i have owned several. The only issues I have is difficult entry and exit and no room for 2 sets of golf clubs and a passenger with the Convertible. Excellent andling, fuel economy, performance, good looks and no more depreciation make the C4 a bargain:thumbs:

I didn't really research as much as I should have. I drove it and accepted several what I consider small issues. I think a real critical person would have run from this car. I liked it because it was a convertible with 72K miles, 91 with the L98 engine. By the time I'm finished I will probably have another thousand in it but at that point will have a fun sports car at about 5.5K. You can't beat the lines, the ride, the clam shell hood, the cool suspension, interior design, coming at you from the front or the rear, and very nice exhaust note. I could go on but you should get it by now.

WEK.

I found what I wanted for a price I could live with and it's fun to drive. Couldn't ask for more.

I'm on my 3rd C4 (a 35th Anniversary Z52 Coupe). The C4 is the generation that made me want to own a Corvette. I'll buy more of them...It's the generation that bought performance AND handling back to the Corvette.
