C7 with Z51 or Grand Sport - pick one

I tried but can't seem to make a poll :confused2:
If some one can make a Poll please do, TIA

If GM keeps the Z51 Option for 2017 on Base cars, how many would want a Grand Sport instead ?

themonk 03-10-2016 06:50 PM

for me it would depend on the price difference, if I was paying cash I would take a 2LT Z51 with all the goodies and put the difference towards go fast mods.

Bui 03-10-2016 06:53 PM

All depends on pricing.

< $5000 Increase = GS
> $5000 Increase = Z51

PS. I'm talking about final buying price here, not MSRP. Stingrays are currently being offered at 11-12% off MSRP. I refuse to overpay for ANY car. If that means I have to get a Z51, because dealerships want to sell GS at sticker, then so be it.

Grand Sport for me!

Always Red Dave 03-10-2016 07:02 PM

If it is a $10,000 difference I would buy the Z51 but if it is a $5000 difference I would buy the Grand Sport.

:iagree:
But Regardless of final buying price, the Grand Sport will cost more.
I'm wondering how many will want a Grand Sport because of the bigger wheels and even bigger brakes etc and looks over and above the standard Z51 option that the Grand Sport will have.
Not saying all that stuff isn't nice, just thinking how many will want that if GM still offers the Z51 option on base cars.

MikeLsx 03-10-2016 07:27 PM

I would go with the grand sport if it was 10k or less over a base.

I have a Z51 c7, and don't even plan on selling it for a few years. But if i was buying new and they had the GS i would get it.

boraxman 03-10-2016 07:32 PM

Grand Sport...Like the wide look better!

r84boomer66 03-10-2016 07:45 PM

I just ordered 2016 3lt z51 so I don't have to worry about price increase, supplier discount, z51 model being continued, etc. Plus I HATE the front wheel spats so that was enough reason for me to order z51 for that reason alone.

themonk 03-10-2016 08:13 PM

I also would like to know the price difference between a 1LZ and GS.

motomanvette 03-10-2016 08:39 PM

I would take a stripped Z06, which would be cheaper than a fairly loaded GS.

TEXHAWK0 03-10-2016 08:43 PM

I would stay with the base Stingray.
Other than the wide body rear end, the GS just adds all the extra stuff that I do not care about on the Z06.

No need for extra oil coolers, electronic differential, wider tires, bigger brakes, etc. Base coupe will do all I need, and other options are not worth an extra $25 - $30,000.

bladex10 03-10-2016 08:46 PM

Would get a stripped Z06 over a mid optioned GS that will likely be priced right in line with it.

Got to stay with the Stingray Z51, I prefer the sleeker body style. All the components just seem to be in the right proportions.
If I had the money I would love to own a Z06, even though I think the Stingray is better looking, but have no interest in the GS.

Steve Carter 03-10-2016 10:17 PM

I've had three ZO6's and now have a Z51 C7. If I were buying new and they had the GS I would get it if the price was within $4,000 of the Z51.

Love the GS.

1776DAVE 03-10-2016 11:28 PM

I like my z51 and would order it again
Why have a zo6 lookalike with a oil sump motor...the gs with a z five one motor will be almost as much as a zosix

GM is going to have a great pricing strategy for the 2017 Corvette. Currently the base MSRP begins at $56K, the Z51 adds a $5K bump up to $61K. Tadge stated the GS would be $8K over the Z51, lets add a little more, make it $9K over the Z51 for a $70K starting MSRP, then the Z06 begins at $80K. IMHO its a great strategy with a price point for every customer. Of course this assumes the Z51 remains and the number Tadge suggested is on target. There will probably be a price increase too, but it's easy to see how the strategy works. Some have pointed out that a loaded model will eclipse the base of the next model, but that's all part of the strategy, you can have your new Vette any way you want it.

I didn't cancel my z51 order when the gas was announced. All that tacked-on aero just looks to me like the local autozone exploded while a corvette was parked in their parking lot.

I'm sure I'd enjoy the extra grip, but not the weight. Good to have choices.

4GS7 03-11-2016 08:12 AM

Depends on the use. If you're dailying the car, I would go with the straightbody car. Consumables will be cheaper. For me, Grand Sport all the way. I would just be adding all the Grand Sport stuff (minus the widebody fenders) to my straightbody car anyways.
