Help with c-2 '66 identification #'s best resource?
 

Looking at the purchase of a '66 roadster....many of the #'s provided and pictures are hard to tell whats what. I have the vin # but the only # that makes any sense FO330HK appears to be the engine designation for a Flint March 30 327 365hp for a '65 not a '66.

Can someone help me please. I have 9 other #'s but I don't know what they represent because I cannot find explanations for them. Have the photos but also not sure from what parts of the engine! Thanks a bunch. The car is in Columbia SC and I am in Montana! Looks like a good deal otherwise!

Hey Phil, thanks and yes I did ck vette facts and made sense of a couple of #'s. I also cked other search sites but still having difficulty. I will post some of the #'s and see if I can help more assistance. Thanks again....

Just post up the numbers you have.............many of us can tell where they belong. TRY and provide descriptions when possible.

NCRS Judging Manual for 1966 will help a bunch for that year.model. Corvette By The Numbers or Chevrolet By The Numbers by Colvin are also great resources.

Post up what you have. Buying an car long distance is a risk...........more so with a Corvette. Try and see the car or pay someone who knows about these cars to inspect it before buying. You will be happy you did this.

That does sound like pretty early date for a '66 as my car's engine was made in early Sept. and it's B-day is 10/29/65 however, stranger things have happened.

Maybe someone like John Z will chime in with an explanation. Good luck.

Hey Larry, thanks good info and resource suggestions. I believe I just posted the #'s I am having trouble identifying, also the 2 I did figure out. I hope that posting went through....rather new this this forum thing! I have a friend who is going to ck out the car for me who lives in the area and also looking for a mechanic to verify condition. It is being sold by a local specialty car dealer who purchased it at auction. He is not suggesting it is a "matching #'s" corvette. Has no real history on the vehicle. Thanks again Larry

They did not make the L76 (365hp) for 66'.

F0330HK is a 1965 model year Corvette engine, 327/365 HP with air conditioning, engine built on March 30, 1965. It is NOT a correct engine for a 1966 model year Corvette.

Next to the F0330HK should be a partial VIN Number...........or perhaps this area could be blank. What is there now?? Likely a "51xxxxx".......but as said earlier, could be blank.

Gonna try this again! here are the #'s I can't identify: AP 4 5 60, 3857584 GM, 385/325, US Patent #3088336, 3827770, 236, 3844461,3857579, 5116320, and the two I can 3782870 = '65 327 Block, FO330HK = Flint March 30 '65 327 365hp. Thanks guys!

Yes, 5116320 next to FO330HK

We can help with these, but it will take a few minutes. What is the VIN Number for the 1966 car and what information is on the TRIM Tag. I am a bit concerned that the car may have parts from a variety of other cars (i.e. a "made up car"). Let me know VIN and TRIM Tag info.

The 5116320 is probably the VIN Derivative of the 1965 donor car for the engine. The AP 4 5 60 is probably a 65 or a 66 and not 60. AP indicates a 4.11 posi rear end for a 327 small block car, with the rear built on April 5 of 65 or 66. You need to check these digits better and report back.

The US Patent #3088336 indicates a Muncie four speed, but the maincase numbers for a 1965 car are 3851325 and for a 1966 car are 3885010. I don't see these numbers listed.

Where are all these numbers coming from on the car's description, or are you looking at pictures with only these numbers showing and no further explanation??

#3857584 is the tail housing to a 1966-1970 Muncie transmission. Could also include year 1965.

#3844461 is the aluminum manifold for a 1965 327/350 or 327/365 engine. It belongs to the 1965 engine stamped F0330HK.

#3857579 is the transmission tag for a 1965 close ratio Muncie transmission. This probably belongs with the 327/365 HP engine.

#3827770 is unknown. Check it again. Possible part number to a GM diesel or HD truck. :D :D
