Vehicle shipping recommendations?

I am in need of a shipping company to ship a c3 corvette. Any recommendations on a reputable company?

For enclosed shipping Intercity Lines gets lots of good reviews by forum members. http://www.intercitylines.com/

I've used Plycar and the rates were reasonable and they were on time and professional. http://plycargroup.com

I would go with a company that owns its own trucks rather than through a broker.

I used Uncle Dave's Hotshot Express, to transport my '69 convertible from Florida to Long Island.
And I'll be using him again, to transport my Pro-Street Monte from LI to SC (and back) to have some work done to it.

Passport Transport http://www.passporttransport.com/
I had my '72 shipped from Colorado Springs, CO to Henderson, NV.
Passport was $200.00 cheaper than Intercity and Reliable for enclosed transport. Car was picked up within a week of placing my order. Team drivers picked up Saturday morning and were at my door Sunday morning.

I've used a private shipper. OK. Open carrier from NH to NC. Cheaper.

I used Intercity for my '65 BB from RI to NC. Good job and communication. Arrived early, and delivered the car on Labor Day. Crew was real nice, but their grubby paws played hell on my white interior! I haven't found anything to remove the staining on the door panels and trim.

When they get there, meet them with a box of Wet Ones!
Pricewise, Intercity was a bit higher than Reliable.
You might check with Horseless Carriage. Last time I checked they were very reasonable, and have good reviews. Seen their trucks around here several times.
I checked FedEx once. They were higher than anyone. That was on a car from LA CA to NC that I ended up passing on.

I went with an enclosed transport from Reliable Carriers. I was happy with their service and protection of the vehicle.

Here's a photo of the happy day of delivery...

Just an FYI. I just did on line requests for quotes. Intercity worked great though I have not yet received the quote. The plycargroup application was tedious, requiring the same info several times and then it failed. Gave me an error message of "wrong security key." Waste of time

When moving to the east coast, I was forced to use a brokerage service which contracts car shipping out. HORRIBLE!!!! Took forever and one car arrived filthy beyond words. Me vette arrived with the passenger window (which admittedly didn't go all the way up) having been manually pulled up. The window gear was broken.

Don't ever get a quote from on-line brokers!!!! I made that mistake. Six months later I'm still getting e-mails and phone calls from them.

FWIW: Fly in and drive it home.

I don't think I'd want to drive a 47 year old car without air conditioning over 1000 miles and 14 hours.

My car needed brakes and I would have had to drive through Dallas to get it home. :ack:

I've been following your search for a Corvette but I must have missed what you purchased. :(

Not All Brokers Are Created Equal

Although some here have reported issues with brokers, we're not the same. Just see our reviews on Consumer Affairs, and Angie's List, as well as our A+ BBB rating. We'd love the opportunity to prove it to you - you can call us at 847-557-0200 M-F 8am-5pm or get a free quote on our website (and no, we only email you about your quote and if you decided to choose us).

I've used DAS Autoshippers in the past with good results. It was quite a number of years ago though and I know sometimes things change, but they were very thorough, kept in communication. Twice I used "door to door service" on cars that I've bought, and once (Ebay Transaction) was shipped from a drop off point at origin in Texas, and arrived at a local body shop here in PA.

The 4th time, I sold one of my Jaguars and the buyer chose to have it dropped off at a drop off point in his area, and asked if I wouldn't mind "dropping off" in my area to save him a few $$$$. I put the car on my trailer, dropped it off about 30 minutes away from me, and it arrived at it's destination just fine. Just thought I'd post my experiences.

Okay I have quotes from the following:

Intercity: $1,445
Passport: $1,275
Executive: $1,200
Horseless Carriage: $1,450

These are all private shippers and are all for enclosed door to door shipping.

I made the mistake of filling out a request for one of the brokerage sites and got spammed with responses. One response is for a company called Dynamic auto movers. They provided some contact info and seem to be legit but the quote was $600. What am I missing here?

Read some of the one star reviews. The one by "Chris M" a little more than half way down the page, gives some insight into the business.

Wow! Thank you for sharing. I will go with one of the private shippers after reading some more reviews. They are all in the same ball park but a couple are a few hundred less.

Wow, some of those reviews are scary. I'm sure, even the best company is going to have a bad review here and there..... but yikes :ack:
