Pictures showing XPel Ultimate after 17,000 Miles

There seems to be much interest in paint protection so I thought I might jump in with a few close-ups of my car covered with XPel Ultimate and just under a year after installation. During this time, we have put on 17000 miles, had a great trip across the US and Canada, and hit enough unpaved roads to provide a great opinion of the product.

I only wish that I could somehow show the multitude of small chips in my windshield to compare against what appears to be a completely clear front end due to XPels amazing self-healing properties.

Great job XPel....probably the best investment for anyone who puts miles on their car and wants it to look as the first day of purchase...

Looks great and what an investment for peace of mind.

One would think GM would offer such protection before the Vette even leaves the assembly plant.

But, I guess that's expecting too much.

I am so glad I started reading this forum again the last few weeks as I would have never known about doing this.

I have an appointment on Wednesday provided my car gets here today or tomorrow.. so what parts is everyone getting done? The entire car?

Does a convertible make any difference as far as what to get done?

So... it's really personal habits that might determine whether to go functional or complete coverage. I travel alot which is most obvious by the mileage. I want my car to remain immaculate and not have to worry about scratches, swirlmarks etc. Cleaning this car simply entails a good washdown and wipe and it looks like this. I am also clumsy. Haplf way through our trip we were in an underground garage and I remember all to well removing the roof and hitting it on a pipe. It was a good smack...no damage whatsoever.

On the other hand, paint protection does leave a bit of a grain so if you are looking at perfect smoothness after a good detailing, you won't get it. The only people that notice this, however, are those car nuts that spend days on getting it as close to a glass finish as possible. As for this Z06, nobody notices it whatsoever unless they get real close. The car sat in the Auto Exotica showcase of the International Auto Show a few weeks back...the ONLY on the floor with paint protection... nobody knew...

It still doesn't compare to this shot; I loved the article and piks! WE will have to meet up once I finally get the guts to drive and park it in NYC. Travel up that way a few times a year; I just havent found a comfortable and assuring parking facility in Manhattan yet lol.

Gene - you should consider posting up pics of the areas on your car that are taking damage without the film protection. That would be a good guide for folks on the areas most impacted - and would be a good contrast to OP's (even tho the miles aren't the same, they both probably have more miles than most).

Assuming OP would be ok with that, of course, as it's his thread.

Just a thought, in the interest of science, so to speak.

AllFlash 05-23-2016 01:34 PM

I would have no problem with that whatsoever.

Thanks for the input, sounds like getting the entire done is the way to go.

I had the impact areas done and now will look into the wind shield. I am happy with the protection for sure, it's nice (after having zero protection on my previous Vettes) to see where a rock hit on the rear fender and just be able to wipe it away :yesnod:

I have 12.5K miles on my Expel and it looks great. Just recently, Expel met its match with a rock or something that bounced off my car. The Expel is damaged but not sure if the paint is. I am going to take it to the person who installed it for me so he can replace the Expel and hopefully there is no damage to the paint. I have a lot of road construction in the area and this is my first blemish. Overall very happy.

Looks great-I love mine.

I have some damage along the lower left side brake duct after my last track event. However, it looks like the Xpel took the brunt of the damage and the paint is OK. I will be seeing the installer about how to resolve.

OP, did you cover the CF fender spats with Xpel? If so, was the film part of the kit or extra?

I'll be damned... and confused. I don't ever remembering them being done by my request but just went out and checked. The passenger side is done but not the driver side. The pasenger side appears to be done at the time and not a pre-cut but I could be wrong. Confused... and I will have to get to the bottom of this one.

You could paint the front end 10X for that; you could prep and shoot the whole car several times!

Car does look impressive though!
