C5.6 build. c6 headlights, c7 hood, widebody.. first post

Hello gentleman, this is my first post on the forum, I have been using the C5 Facebook pages. The build is still underway with much left to do. But it's on the road! :) I am sure I am going to forget to include something here.. Picked up the car this year totaled from just a few hours away (loong story behind this I will post at a later date) 2000 coupe, silver paint code. 114k miles. I just wanted to make something that would be a one off that I would enjoy owning. A brief overview is that I saw Laurent Bensaid's c5 to c6 front end conversion and a few gents said that it would be impossible to fit C6 headlights in the C5 as it sits. I took up the project as I love the original body lines of the C5 rather than the high fenders of the c6. My car did not have headlight assemblies when I got it home. I had to cut and shorten the front bumper frame rail to allow the housings to sit low enough to allow me to mold and fiberglass along the c5 body lines. Fromy here I layer down clay and got to work. Once I was happy with my molds I starated the daunting task of fabricating the new front end. See photos for progress Aside from this I started replacing everything under the suspension that had been deteriorating from old age. Brain Miller with vette villains hooked us up with many parts for the build. Drilled and slotted rotors, new targa top and random parts. I opted to rebuild the calipers and powdercoat them in house to flow with the color scheme of the car. Pete (quickz06) shipped out some CC fiberglass wide body fenders to give some ASSistance to the rear. Matted the rear and did a matte metallic blue insert for the "corvette" on the bumper. The exhaust was all fabricated in house and installed for a specific sound. (Will post separate) Withe the reworking of the front end and xenon c6 lights the hood had to have a unique setup. Instead of hinges I went for a more sinisterquick release system. Next I molded in a C7 hood vent on the stock c5 hood for the aggressive look. I was running temps around 230 daily so I swapped out the single row radiator for a dual row all aluminum. I cut out and fabed up a front air dam to allow better cooling alongside the heat extractor. Now I run a constant 190-210* daily under spirited driving never see over 235. I will extend the post as I recall projects. I'm along for the ride. :)
Brian With Vette Villians is an honest and great guy. |
Looks like a great project.
One question, why didn't you use the hood lines you had drawn in the 10th picture? I liked the factory look you had going there. Looking forward to future updates. |
Ambitious project!

Great work so far. Always wanted to do something like that but just went with radioflyer headlights. Not sure how your hood setup works but I'm sure it will all look great in end
|
This is what happened to my old radioflyers. George just blamed the sun Rays and left it at that. So I sold them
