2016 Z51 or 2017 Grand Sport
 

I am looking to buy my first corvette and am looking for daily driver. Which car do you guys recommend 20016 Z51 or shall i wait for 2017 Grand Sport?

I am a new C7 owner and it is not my daily driver. It is a nonZ51, 2lt, 7 speed manual. I love it, very happy.

Regarding your question, I would go with the GS. There are many things I like about it mostly appearance wise. However, I despise the striping on the fenders but have learned you do not have to have that so that changed my opinion on them. I think it is a great looking car (wide body) sans the stripes.

That is not the case.

Base/z51 = normal or narrow body

ZO6/GS = wide body

The wide body cars have a visible rear brake duct cooler.

Oh, and they are wider, duh =p

Zo6 and GS tires are wider than a base or base with z51 car. The wider tires necessitate wider fenders.

Money not an issue than 2017 GS.

You don't need a GS (or a Z06) to go to Krogers! If you are looking for a daily driver, there is no reason to go beyond a Z51 Stingray. Now, if money is not object, then the whole scenario changes! The 2017 GS's will initially come at a $$$ premium. If you can find a suitable 2016 Stingray on a lot, the discount will probably put you $15K under a GS! I have a '15 Z51 and love it. Not a daily driver but surely not a garage queen either. I race cars and have taken the C7 to the track. If you are not a true track junkie, there is no reason to get a GS other than the obvious!

Depends on how much money you want to spend and which car you visibly like better. You will get a deal on the Z51, you won't on the GS :) If it were me, a GS, but then again, I like the looks of the wide body versus the narrow.

Many of us were surprised that the higher hp LT1 didn't have wider tires than the standard or Z51 C6. Credit Micheline tires. However the GS with the same LT1, same hp engine has a faster 0 to 60 time, i.e. better traction. Also faster lap times. I plan to replace my 2014 Z51 with a GS. Real issue for you is the added cost of the GS option.

Grand Sport, get something more unique. Worth the cash IMO.

That's a good assumption, but a wrong one.

Some of us that placed a GS order in the first week or so after orders opened got as much % off as (sometimes more than) a Z51 order. Many did much better than the publicly stated numbers.

That brings down the difference to a smaller amount (and MSRC is already in there in the GS). Would totally spring for the GS.

OP, however, should tell us more about the kind of area he/she lives in and how much it snows there or what the weather is like. I already resolved to switch between dedicated summers and snows (all seasons suck in all seasons). The winter tires are definitely expensive and the Sottozero 3s are the only options right now, but they are a good option.

I'm also having the same concerns. The GS is only 6-7k more than msrc equipped 2LT 16's.
It may be better to go GS in the long run. Enjoy a better looking, newer car. I am not planning on keeping the car past 5 yrs. so I was going to do a balloon on the end in time for C8 and pay as little as possible. The GS should have a higher resale value from a Stingray.

You should note that the Grand Sport is going to have a higher operating cost than a standard coupe with or without the Z51 package.

Tires are more expensive. Mileage will not be as good in the GS. Insurance will be likely a tad higher in the GS.

Highway driving was noticeably lower mileage in my C6 GS than in my standard C6. Even with a manual transmission in the GS, my mileage got significantly worse than my automatic coupe. This is primarily tire width (rolling resistance) and aerodynamics.

Having said all that... The most expensive purchase is one you regret. If you 'settle' for the coupe but drive around wishing you had purchased a wide-body, do yourself a favor and spend the money.

10 might be pushing it but yeah you're in the ballpark.

You saw a poster on a different thread say he got 9.5% though it goes a bit lower after fees. So you have a good idea what you can get on a new 2017, even a GS.

8% is the discount at the big forum dealers, so an $80k GS would be $73,600.

hm....I wish I could build one on the GM website to see what my config would cost. This is looking more appealing now....Can't wait to see some of the delivered ones late this week and next.
