66 hood adhesive for support brackets
 

I noticed that the adhesive used to attach the hood deck to the support structure on the engine side of my 66 coupe has failed. Several of the attachment points in the middle of the hood have become un-attached. I would like to try and force some sort of adhesive in between the two components to re-attach them together. What adhesive is recommended?

Ask your body/paint supply store for hood "gumdrop" adhesive and they'll have a conventional adhesive product for that application.

Don't use a 2-part polyester bond material for the cross-bracing or you can end up with "bond-burn" distortions in the hood outer surface

What's been used for years with great results is DAP polyurethane gutter and flashing sealant.

It is black, has a decent working time, and holds well with no heat burn-thru.

Let's give credit where it's due. NCRS member Jerry Fuccillo came up with this fix many years ago. I've used it on several C-2 hoods. It's the best product on the market for this application.:cheers:

Loctite vs. DAP
 

DAP gutter & flashing sealant is now a latex base product. Loctite's S30 roof & flashing is a polyurethane based product. GE's gutter/flashing product is a silicone based product.

I guess staying with a polyurethane product would be best?

DAP 18816 is polyurethane and is black. Listed for sale on Amazon so it's not been EPA'd into oblivion...
