Rear end failure using Launch Control at Drag Strip!
 

I used launch control on my Stock 2016 Stingray Z51 Manual and was shocked when this happened!!!

I don't trust launch control. First time I tried it, I spun the tires. I tried a smoother and slower clutch release the next time and burned the sh*t out of my clutch.

I have probably done it 10 or 12 times, but never again!

That didn't sound too good. Warranty should cover it.

I'm guessing warranty will cover it. The warranty does not exclude participation in track events, and the car came equipped w/ launch control.

It is hard to tell from the video but I don't think your C7 had the time to stabilize at launch RPM, videos I have seen before show them launching at around 4,500. You have to let the launch control stabilize the RPM before engaging the clutch and this can take around 1 second to occur after full throttle is applied. If you go to full throttle and then immediately let in the clutch it is going to try to launch without launch control engaged and with a good hookup you will break things and with a partial hookup it can get away from you easily.

This may be true, the light changed too fast! Although I doubt 500 RPM would be the difference in breaking things or not.

I agree the 500 RPM probably wouldn't matter but until it stabilizes the launch control hasn't taken over so the important part was the torque/slip management portion of launch control wasn't active allowing you to basically do a full power launch at that RPM.

The other place where launch control can get you into trouble is if you initially launch with launch control working then back out for an instant before going back to full throttle. When you back out launch control disengages and then when you go back to full throttle it does NOT re-engage so you will suddenly have unexpected levels of wheel spin which can easily lead to loss of control.

I really never understood why the have L/C at such a high RPM on the manual and significantly lower on the auto. I tried it twice and though it sucked (M7) I do way better to the old fashioned way.

Agreed, makes me nervous, and I'll never use it on my M7, but then again, the drag strip isn't terribly interesting to me.

That domain is better suited to solid rear axles, which are much more capable of handling that kind of stress. IRS are designed for handling and superior cornering.
