From Car and Driver...

We’re mildly (okay, completely) obsessed with the upcoming mid-engined C8 Chevrolet Corvette, so we were pleased to see this new set of spy photos, grainy though they may be, which we could parse for details we didn’t know before.

The photos show a prototype C8 in its actual body, and we now have a good look at the car’s profile. While the front end is covered in blocky camouflage that effectively masks its contours, the doors are covered in only a squiggle-pattern wrap. What camo covers the rear of the car appears to be pulled relatively taut over the body panels, revealing its overall wedge shape. The mid-engine proportions are clearly visible here as well, and any questions as to whether the car would feature a mid-mounted powerplant should well and truly be put to rest.

The rear view shows a small rear window and the Corvette’s signature quad taillamps, including the amber turn signals. Also seen are the conventional forward-hinged doors with frameless windows.

The mid-engined Vette is expected to make its debut at the 2018 Detroit auto show in January and go on sale later that year as a 2019 model. A small-block V-8 engine pumping out 450 to 500 horsepower will sit behind the driver, and we’ve recently confirmed that shifting duties will be handled by a new, Tremec-sourced seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A hybrid model is expected to come online later in the car’s life cycle, given that GM recently trademarked the Corvette E-Ray name and presumably plans to put it on something. A revival of the ZR-1 moniker also is possible for more powerful versions to be introduced later.

Pretty conclusive. Maybe now people will believe those of us who said this was happening nearly 2 years ago...

ok, I'll be flamed, but the front body outline in that photo kind of reminds me of an Opel from long ago...

By the way, I do NOT think this is the eight generation Corvette, but a separate and distinct car coming out as a 2019 model with the eight generation Corvette planned for the 2021 model year.

I would agree with that based on my insider knowledge.

Small brakes.

Hey, that looks like Ron Fellows ! Maybe we should ask him?
Anyone attending Spring mountain soon ?

At least these pictures clearly show a mid-engine car. Fun times ahead!

I pray to the good lord above that they keep the same tail lights as the C7.

They def won't be making them round again anytime soon. It's one of the best things they did to update the aging look of the Corvettes before it. So many people said its what the car needed to really move forward regardless of what a few fans who didn't like change thought.

Yep, these pictures are a mid-engine car. Now the question is Corvette, Cadillac, or even a new nameplate.

Thanks for pics, Jeremy.

Definitely looks ME. I can't wait to see this rig, and am very pleased they are going to finally build it.

I'm thinking Cadillac to make the economics work....no one is ready at GM for a Vette (mid-engine) in the >$125K+ range.

I don't care what shape they are as long as they are better looking than the C7's, which are still ugly.

I love the rest of the C7, all the lines and angles, all the way up to the ass end. It is like the design team spent too much time working on the rest of the car and were out of time so they just drew the ass end on the back of a napkin at lunch and called it done.

I see no reason the car would be 125k; I would guess starting price would be 70-80k.

Tiny. Makes me wonder if this is not a supercar at all but rather a segment filler like a new Fiero. OR... this is the C8 and all segments of the lineup are Mid Engine and this is the base model.

If weight distribution is 40/60, rears might have bigger brakes. They might also be using small brakes to simulate CCB weights : p

Wow! You can use the front control arms as a foot rest! :D
