Mamo Motorsports Build: MMS Heads, Solid Roller, MSD, Factory Shortblock

Almost 2 years ago I made a build thread for my old WCCH/K501 topend. Well I thought it would be best to retire that thread and created an MMS specific one. Over the last year I have been reading up on the great work that Tony Mamo has been investing into the LS7 platform. This past March I contacted Tony to discuss a new top end package. Initially I asked about further porting my WCCH heads. Through discussion, Tony advised me that his new MMS TFS heads were the hot ticket through their clean sheet port design that he could perfect with hand porting. I left my deposit and Tony. I had to make a couple design changes along the way; for those who don't know Tony, he is absolutely customer service oriented, but he is absolutely dedicated to his craft, and that often requires bursting people's bubbles. I am hoping for great things from this build. No specific power goals, just trying to improve efficiencies from a hot-rodders stand point. Because race car :D

New Parts:
Factory Shortblock
MMS TFS LS7 Cylinder Heads, additional exhaust porting, 60cc combustion chamber (412/265+ cfm), 13:1 static compression
MMS Comp Cams Solid Roller Cam, 252/266, .703/.700, 114* (.014" lash)
        MSD Intake Manifold
          LG Super Ram Air Intake

ARH 2" Headers, No Cats, Swaintech Coated
Z06 Mufflers with 3" Muffler Mod

          GZ Motorsports Vacuum Pump System

          Flex Fuel

            Carryover Parts
            Monster LT1-S clutch, lightened flywheel
            Dewitts Radiator
            Meziere EWP
            Katech Belt Tensioner

I'm removing the old parts now and will update with pictures as I install all the new parts over the next 10 days. Thanks for checking this stuff out. My PB on the local dynojet has been a very repeatable 594-596rwhp. I'll be posting dyno results for this new combo using the exact same dyno.

            Josh,

Did you have a mechanical issue on your previous build? Are you going to run E85? That's a lot of nice parts going into that build! Looking forward to seeing the build and results.

            tdeweese 09-25-2016 03:48 PM

Dam!!! I like all of it!! Smart move on the Katech "Red" pump. I went with the "blue" pump and have oil pressure on the low side.

awesome build man looking forward for the result

Same here with the blue pump.

Very nice lots of goodies - so when do you think the dyno test in about a month?

I have had zero mechanical issues with my previous build. I am very happy with the WCCH/K501 combo, it is a real winner, but I feel that Tony has raised the bar for our engine platform.

Yes, I'm going to be primarily on E85, flex fuel capable. The dynamic compression between the two combos is only .1 point off (so we will try and tune for 93 octane for when E85 is not available). Static compression is up almost 1 full point (11.8 vs 12.7), but the new cam has an IVC that is 9* later than the K501, so the DCR is almost the exact same.

Thanks man, I'm excited about the results too.

            Josh,

Did you have the LS7 Ti rods rebushed? I'm guessing you don't have those rocker arms bolted down as the rollers are way on the edge of the valve stems.

The rods are factory stock with ARP 2000 bolts. The shaft rockers were sitting on the half moon pedestal stands that TFS includes with the Gen X heads; so you're right, they're right on the edge in the picture because they are not at the correct pedestal height, it's a misleading picture really.

Yes, at some point in October for sure. I have dozens of pulls on this particular dynojet (224x). For comparison sake, a stock C7Z laid down exactly 550rwhp on it. It's very repeatable, I've used it for before/after tests for the EWP, the Monster clutch, and the 3" muffler mod.

Looks good. Should be a beast.

The "flex fuel kit" is a great option for people who need support, and a one stop plug and play solution. Just like most things, if you are mechanically able, know what to do, and source the parts yourself you can get things cheaper, but for most I still recommend just ordering Dave's kit.
