Man I really hate to see this:( after such a long restoration with a great result, ending up in a disaster like this:smash:. I can't imagine how I would feel.
I already was pissed when I discovered a real small brake fluid leak which had ruined the paint on the frame 2 days ago. But in comparison to this I shouldn't complain:blueangel:

Shame when something like this happens. But it happens. The car will be fixed...and back on the road in a couple of weeks good as new... Nobody got hurt...and the whole mess will be forgotten. Except for a great story!
It's why you have good insurance.

That's probably the worst night mare of any car enthusiast who does a restoration...

I don't carry classic car insurance on my car. Dumb you say, yes maybe, but only dumb if I need it. One reason is I do not believe any of these so called classic car insurance sellers about paying off. I would like to hear from anybody that has had the bad luck to collect from them. Did they pay like they said they would and who was the company that sold the insurance.

I have Hagerty and they were great when I had a claim.

Insurance gave me a payout for this , which was the panel beaters quote and close to the max it was insured for anyhow . Mind you I had spent a lot on it , so it was under insured in actual fact . But they just wanted to write it off on the assesors advice . All's well that ends well , cheers .:thumbs:

Yes, $2700 no question asked payout to repair my '61 windshield cracked from a gravel strike. American Collector's Insurance in 2008.

Try explaining to a generic auto insurance company adjuster why a windshield R&R costs $2700 and why it costs extra for an LOF etched logo with date code.

The concerns about classic car insurance company payouts are specious. All the big names know their business and reputation will rise or fall on how well they handle their customers in a fairly tight-knit collector community.

I also don't know how many generic auto insurers would go with the high "agreed upon" values we put on our beloved classics:thumbs:

About 25 years ago I had L79 1965 coupe go on fire that was a total loss. The back of the car lit up like a bonfire. The inurance agency that sold the policy was JC Taylor of Darby Pa.and the actual insurer was Maryland Casualty Company a subsidiary of Zurich North America. I had a check in my hand for the full agreed value (minus $500 deductable) in less than a week AND I was able to keep the car. The frame, engine, and a ton of other components were still fine so there was a lot of value still in the wreck. They treated me wonderfully.
