headlamp sprayers

I saw these today at the Mecum auction on a 1970 LT-1....

Yep they had them in 1970. My 1970 L-46 has them - I've never tried to make them work, though.

Introduced for the 1969 model year.

Yes in 69/70 It uses a 5 port washer,

Hi,
I believe the 69 model year used a 3 port pump with an additional valve added to the left side of the wiper motor housing for 2 more ports. The 70 model year and EARLY 71 model year cars used the 5 port pump. When the headlight washers were discontinued during the 71 model year the 5 port pump continued to be seen in production to 'about' serial number 12,500. Many folks feel the headlight washers were a 'feature' that promised more than it delivered. Regards, Alan Here's a 5 port. It's from a 71 (no headlight washers) so the 2 extra ports have a short piece of hose running between them. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...l/DSC_0671.jpg Here's a 69 3 port with the additional valve for 2 more ports. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...ior/480175.jpg |
You learn something everyday here!
I didn't see it as an option, so it must have been a standard "feature" I guess I would question its value as well. |
The sprayers were standard equipment in 1969 and 1970, yes.

Hi,
I think the headlamp washers were really in the same category as the fiber optics…. they gave the car somewhat of a "concept car" aura! Pretty cool ideas for cars in the late sixties, but really of limited actual utility? Regards, Alan I think the decision to not have the washers anymore was a pretty quick one. There continued to be 5 port pumps, some of the required hoses, and the holes for the nozzles in the headlamp bezels, for months after the system was no longer a part of the car. I guess that's an indication of parts already on hand, and in the supply network being produced. |
