Squeaky belt or alternator going bad?

My car has been having this intermittent squeak. I don't know if any of these things are relevant but this is what it does... It will sometimes be silent but start on a left or right turn. It sometimes squeaks in the a.m. then goes away when it warms up. Sometimes it will squeak for days then disappear. Had the main belt replaced, had the idler pulley replaced, now they think it might be the alternator, even though it's working fine. My question is, if I put powder on the belts and the noise goes away, can it be the alternator? Thanks for any insight/advice.

I doubt it is the alternator if powder makes the noise go away. Check the harmonic balancer to make sure it is not out of round or has moved out of line with everything else.
If that is good then it may be the tension pulley. If the new belt is slipping just from the resistance of the power steering pump then it makes me think that there isn't enough tension on the belt.
If your water pump is leaking antifreeze or if you have oil leaking from the main seal then it will get on the belt as well. Check fluid levels and look for leaks.

It is hard to say for sure over the web.

Can also be the AC belt. I had the mast squeak and ripped the belt off my vert. Who needs ac anyways lol.

The A/C has it's own little belt though.

I appreciate the comments. Sorry I took so long to thank you all. It definitely is not squeaking if I put powder on it, but I don't think Corvette engines are supposed to smell like perfume so I should get it figured out ASAP. At least I'm armed with some sort of insight when I go back to the mechanic. Thanks again.
