Wrong Power Steering Pump

2 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a new Power steering pump from AutoZone, seems all the hassle I went thru to get this pump it doesn't align with the other pulleys. I wanted to run this by everyone in case someone ran into this before, so I don't go back have have the tell me it's the right one and points out something dumb.

Thanks,

Year end engine?

Compared to my '71 454 you have the wrong pulley, should be a 2 groove PS pulley, and it's the later replacement reservoir which makes it even harder to fill (original reservoir is tilted forward).

Did you compare to old pump? Did you install the pulley yourself? Was the old pump aligned with the same brackets?

looks like the wrong pully, sb had 1 groove and bb have the dbl groove pullys

Shouldn't there be a third groove? An add on pulley?
My 78s and 79s had a separate pulley .
First two grooves were for AC and alternator.
Third groove was just power steering, belt did not go around water pump.

edit....something like this?(not my listing, just example)

I guess I need to add more. This is a frame off restore. The engine is the original SB 350. Only added vortex heads and matching intake. The original power steering pump was tossed away. But the pulleys are all original. I did note that the pump part number changed in 80, I'm wondering if my car was built later in the year might it have received an 80s pump?

The pump itself didn't change much. That Saginaw pump was used on just about everything domestic for decades. The reservoir changed a bit but doesn't affect how it mounts.

Early pumps used a key to lock the pulley, later ones are press fit.

Too bad you threw the old one away. They are easy to rebuild and the rebuild kits are cheap.

KapsSA was correct. I found I loose pulley that is added over the original pulley to total three grooves for a total of three.

Thanks everyone but especially KapsSA

I am installing a Borgeson conversion on a 67 small block and have run into the same misalignment problem you had, with exactly the same misalignment of the PS pump pulley. Please let me know how you ultimately resolved this.

Thanks,

Bob

If you read through the thread, it states, he added a third pulley.
did you try posting your question in the C2 forum?
