QuickJack BL-5000SLX Car Lift review
 

I've been reading the articles here for quite awhile and have been looking for some hints on what kind of car lift I should get for working on my vette. I settled on the QuickJack BL-5000SLX since I needed something low-profile that wouldn't permanently take up too much room. This setup works great and fits all of my needs. I included some photos for anyone that may be researching for something like I did and wanted to see what this product looks like.

You can easily disconnect the hydraulic hoses once the lifts are in position and the weight is on the locking bars. In this photo you can see the additional safety that I included by placing my 4 ton jack in the frame while lifted:

After spending 10 years working on aircraft, I learned that you always needed more than two safety mechanisms on any lift!:cool:

So this system is really great for the $$$ spent, and stows away nicely when not in use. While assembling I needed to pay close attention because some things were not as the manual had indicated (the air cylinder had the valves already connected). Here is a short list:

Pros

• Great for the price :willy:
• Lifts quickly with a real positive feel when latched
• Very stable when in the air. I applied lateral pressure to see how much play would be in the stands, they were really tight!
• The customer service is great. The company had a $100 promotion AFTER I made my purchase... they actually sent me a $100 refund after I called and asked!:woohoo:

Cons

• The assemblies sometimes did not match the manual (Air valve)
• I needed to disassemble one of the cylinder mounts to connect the right angle hydraulic adapter fitting because the inlet was a few degrees off and it wouldn't mount while attached (the fitting hit a support). Not a big deal... we work with tools anyway!:smash:
• I also needed to remove one air valve and clear some teflon tape from the valve seat... the person that assembled the valve was a little too generous with the tape.

I would definitely rate this lift system at a B+ and I did so when comparing it to the system by brother-in-law has in his garage that is permanently mounted and takes up a ton of space.

I was kicking around the idea of grabbing one of these, are you using the pinch weld adapters or just the included blocks?

What do you use for blocks at the lift points of the car (can't see in pictures) - if that make sense - - also I assume there's the need to allow 18" (??) of distant front or back as the lift rises - only a concern in small garages - mine is only 19' deep.
What did your set up cost delivered??

I am using the rubber blocks that were included. They seem to be a high density product and stabilize the car when it's in the air.

I have had mine for two years now and love it. I use it quite a bit and my Vette is on it now for winter storage in my garage. :thumbs:

How many $ for that?

:cheers: I'm considering the larger one for my truck, z06 and C4 but I'm torn because I'd also thought about getting a proper 4 post although I'd have to move it in a few years.

I also have this lift and give it two thumbs up. Next to my race ramps, the two best items I've gotten for Vette maintenance. Now waiting for those who say you'll die if you use this lift. The four post or nothing crowd.

It is probably a fact that more people have died as the result of lightning strikes than from using this. Lol.

I do own a two post lift but working on certain things is actually harder on a lift then using this item which is exactly why I bought and use it more often than my real lift.

Don't listen to the posts that say it's not sturdy or safe since it's such thin or lightweight steel because once lifted it's extremely sturdy and it locks into place just incase the hydraulicsame were to bleed off.

Have one....love it. Zero footprint, up in the air in literally five minutes, very safe design and real easy company to deal with if there is a problem. As stated, it locks in place mechanically so there is no safety issue. If by some freak miracle BOTH steel welds gave way there is still hydraulics in the system as a backup. Two big thumbs up.
