Trading in my Grand Sport....

I'm heading down to see Tim at Boardwalk Chevrolet this morning. I've decided to trade in my '17 Blade Silver Grand Sport for a identical Z06/Z07.
As much as I want this Z, the hit on the GS is a hard pill to swallow.
I can keep the GS and continue to want a Z06, or I can drive home today with a huge smile on my face.
It's really a no brainier :-)

What else matters? Other than posting new pics! :D

coladin 12-06-2016 11:53 AM

At the end of the day, you work too hard to settle at this stage. We are not talking about getting pepperoni instead of a combo pizza here. I learned a long time ago that settling really tarnishes ownership. And believe me I have done a lot of that!

I can go back to my 93 Probe GT when I wanted a 93 Z28. Couldn't find one. Probe was a really nice car...but not what I wanted.

97 Maxima when I wanted a 98 Audi A4...remember how nice those looked? Maxima was great...not what I wanted.

99 Mustang GT...what I wanted and loved it!

02 Volvo S60 T5...wanted a BMW 330i...great car and happy with it...not what I wanted.

05 Mustang GT, what I wanted and loved it!

You can see the pattern here, I can go on and on, but you get what you want and you will enjoy that much more. DO IT!

Ltrain925 12-06-2016 11:54 AM

Just bought my z06 from tim do it!! You won't regret it

Have you actually driven a Z06 yet?
It might be something to do before dumping the GS.

Although I haven't driven the GS, my guess is with its Z06 chassis it drives similarly.
HOWEVER, the Z can't really utilize all of the power of the LT4 in a street situation.
It's too easy to see much of it end up as tire smoke.
Of course, YMMV...but you really should drive one first.

it is what it is it's only money and you'll make more of it or find it or you will just sustain life anyway life is too short to settle especially later in life.

I waited until I was 42 years old (kids driving already and financially able to swing it) to purchase my first new Corvette which is the Z06 I currently own.

my journey for a new Corvette started out with just getting into the C7 somehow selling my C6 and having minimal impact on other things we like to do.

That all changed when I went to Corvettes at Carlisle this year, my first time. I rented a Mustang convertible and yes I tried to find a Camaro but none were available last minute as I didn't feel like bringing my C6 to an event where I knew the latest and greatest would dominate the area.

I'm glad I did because it just made me want a C7 even more I met with Mike Furman there delivering a c7z with the Callaway package to a very happy repeat customer.

I thought to myself I am going to own a new C7 before this event next year. I told Mike that I would be down some point in the future to grab a Grand Sport from him hoping to be able to swing that with the wife LOL

when I finally started looking I was going to settle for a C7 then my good friend pointed something out thank god. He said you better think about that because you'll put a ton of money into that C7 to make it as fast as a ZO6 and it won't be and won't look like it either.

then I thought about a Grand Sport, putting a supercharger on it and by the time I figured all that out how could I not buy leftover 16 Z06? I even went a step further. I was going to buy a 1LZ. but stepped up to a 3LZ. and not a bare bones one either lol. Couldn't be happier. you won't regret it.

you made a mistake and you're going to rectify it just call it the cost of doing business and enjoy every minute of it and never regret it because you will always regret that grandsport whenever you're in the same parking lot or road or show as the ZO6 you really wanted.

MSG C5 12-06-2016 12:22 PM

Good luck with your upgrade. Glad you're getting what you want and someone very shortly will be getting a very nice, lightly used Grand Sport.

EdsC6Z06 12-06-2016 12:39 PM

That will be a depreciation smack down. Good luck!

Garret 12-06-2016 02:17 PM

Make sure you seriously want the Z06 power....It's crazy fast and scary at times...I myself was going to get a GS and got the Z instead and have zero regrets.

skipperC7 12-06-2016 02:29 PM

That's a nice GS, but don't settle again. Get exactly what you want with no exceptions.

runutzzzzz 12-06-2016 02:30 PM

Just throw on a PD blower and you will have the power of the Z!

I daily drive my Z06 and I use all 650HP often. Maybe it is the aggressive drivers in Tampa but it is not uncommon to apply max HP to get were I need to go. In Sport mine just hooks up and goes. Only a fool turns off the nannies on the street. With them on the only real danger is you get to "Go to Jail" speeds in a hurry. My Gen 5 ZL1 it was common for me to see 100+ mph sprints..... this car it becomes 125+ without much effort.

I drive my Z06 daily and the power level becomes normal. When I drive my wife's SUV, I nearly get creamed due to expecting 470 hp more than that POS has on tap.

Overall I could not imagine driving a GS if I could have a Z06. Life is short...

MacManInfi 12-06-2016 04:18 PM

I really stretched to get my Z. Traded a 2015 Z/28 to get it and couldn't be happier. The Z/28 got old/normal pretty quick but I already have more miles on the Z06 and I still look forward to driving it. Love this car.

rbartick 12-06-2016 04:55 PM

Do it. I can't imagine driving this car being down 190 HP and 185 ft-lbs.

Wait...are you saying you bury your right foot while driving around Tampa and don't end up in jail?:skep:

Please elaborate with the details.

cvp33 12-06-2016 05:45 PM

I was going to buy a GS coming out of my CTS-V coupe. On paper the Corvette with 460hp was supposed to have similar performance numbers. However, upon driving the base motor Corvette I was just missing the torque down low. I just couldn't do it. The Z for me.

AZDANZ06 12-06-2016 06:09 PM

You will not regret buying the Z06. I had a 2008 Z06 that I got rid of last year, then decided I needed another toy a few months later, bought a 2015 370Z and it was a fun little car, but it was not a Z06. Then traded that in on a 2015 Mustang GT Premium, it was a better car, but it was still not a Z06 - a little over a week ago I bought my Fully Loaded Z06/Z07/3LZ and do not regret it one bit, absolutely love this car.

Moral of the story, once you own a Z06, nothing else will scratch that itch unless you go up into the exotic world which are big bucks!!

DSOMonster 12-06-2016 06:25 PM

If it ain't gonna make you eat Top Ramen all the time, miss house payments, stop heating and cooling your home, keep the kids outta college and not be able to buy tires...BUY THE Z!

Traded a 911S for Z06/Z07/3LZ and could not be happier. I loved the Porsche but even after a year and 24000 miles I still get excited every time I start the Vette and hear the sound. Then start to move and Wow the power!! You will love the Z06's extra power, even if it is "too much " for all the time. Good luck.

Puttnutt24 12-06-2016 06:46 PM

I would like to say I drove this home but i did not..
The dark gray interior was a deal breaker..
So Tim and I ordered exactly what I wanted.
Blade Silver Z06/Z07 M7 2LT with jet black interior and a carbon fiber dash kit.
Order has been placed, delivery end of January.
Will also give me a chance to sell my GS on my own.
As others said, don't settle, life is short, battling the big C now and so far, all good..
Thanks everyone..

Plus you will have the same drive train warranty as a 1974 Vega or Pinto has in 2016.

Putting a blower on a 2017 Grand Sport won't make it a C7Z. It will just be a GS with a blower. No doubt when you try to trade it in, you won't get the value of a C7Z.

 You only live once and I completely agree. Before I bought my 2016 Z I had a new Evo X and I just kept feeling like I had settled. Get the best car you can reasonably afford so you won't have any regrets later in life, there are very few factory cars on the planet that can outperform a new Z06 and it is one of the best bang for your buck sports...er super cars in history.

I would wait it out another month to see what the ZR1 has to offer. I would hate to see an identicle thread from you in a year wanting to jump to a ZR1. The Z06 will still be here in another month if you dont like what you see.

Speedforhire 12-07-2016 09:46 AM

Personally; I regret trading in my modded C6 GS for the hyped Z car. The Z I have now just doesn't have the character that my GS had.

Think it over carefully OP. If you really want one try waiting two years so you can break even on the trade in. Good Luck!

Hang in there pal! Just got back from my dad's pancreatic cancer update, and it really is an eye opener as to how precious life is. He tells me to enjoy life while you can, an attitude that I never really had. I am that hunter/gatherer/save for rainy day guy. That all changed when I got my Z06.

You take whatever we can get. Hope everything goes well for you but I think this Z06 will be a great morale boost!

And if I don't want to wait until January, Tim has a Watkins Glen Gray Z06/Z07 coming in next week. As much as I like the Blade Silver, the WGG would be my second choice, and it has everything I want. We'll see......have a great day..

How did you decide buying a GS over the Z06. Was it impulsive or?

Given what you have gone through, get the exact car you want. Waiting a few weeks will pay off down the road (so to speak). Best

Honestly, it was decisive the moment I stomped my foot to the floor on the Grand Sport. I've always built things my whole life, usually Harley's and Chevy trucks. And I've always wanted as much usable/reliable power as I could get. The thought of something straight from the factory that I don't have to rip apart and make better sure excites me. As awesome as this Grand Sport is, I wouldn't be happy without the added power of the Z06...

The Watkins Glen Gray is really nice. Maybe you could see the two together and make your choice. I have a shark gray which is sort of in between the two. (2016). Color is so much of a personal taste but they all look good. I have a black interior with the red stitching. I think you're smart not to settle on the interior color that you're not 100% committed to. Good luck with everything and I hope you find the car that makes you happy.

On average, I use 50% of the power of my Z which is a daily driver. Every once in awhile I get a chance to go WOT through a few gears. It's awesome.

Conversely, I found myself using full power in my other stock Vettes (including a C7 Z51) frequently.

May never use it, but really happy having it.

It's kinda like how I feel about California's 10 round magazine law. I don't need 15 rounds in my SIG/Glock or 30 in my AR15, but I'm pissed because I'm not allowed to have the extra rounds.

Absolutely beautiful. I am leaning toward that color, but on the GS. I will always respect the Z06 guys, but that much power would be a waste of money for me -- at this stage of my life.

Good luck and enjoy.

Wow! Beautiful car. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and went through radiation treatments. I'm in remission and life is good. :) Enjoy your new Z.

BTW, that's a beautiful pic of your GS.

We do however have one very important sound he doesn't. That intoxicating, melodious sound of the supercharger playing it's siren sound as one uncorks all that power on a deserted highway. And where you are and he is, there are so many to explore. Happy Holidays and may you be blessed with many successful days of fly fishing in the coming year.

Thanks everybody..
As great of a car as the Grand Sport is, the Z06 just takes it to another level. the power is exhilarating, but very manageable if driven responsibly. I ride a hot rod Harley too and with either vehicle, if I drove like an idiot, well, I'm going to pay the consequences, no thank you..
I love this car, I started with a '16 Z51, then my '17 Grand Sport and now the car I wanted from the beginning. Oh well, the road was nice...
Merry Christmas everybody..
Rich
