Yesterday's track day video with my 2017 Z06

Hey guys,

I got back out to to Autoclub Raceway in Fontana yesterday, and had a BLAST!!!:yesnod:

Let me first say, that I'm NOT the fastest guy out there, nor do I wish to be. I get a KICK out of putting these videos together, and REALLY enjoy sharing them. I fully understand that once I put them out on an open forum, I'm subject to any and all comments.

I guess I would politely say that I'm not trying to PROVE anything here, other then the fact that GM did put together a pretty Decent car with the 17 model. Again, the main reason I put these videos up is for entertainment, so please enjoy, if you don't like it, click off...:flag:

At this point, I've done the following to my Z:

*stock air intake with K&N filter swap only.
*Torco mixed with 12 Gallons of 91, to make up for the 93 tune.
*Torco 20/50 OIL.
*Granatelli Expansion tank with an extra small radiator with spall fans to help with cooling of added fluid to A/W after cooler system.
*Catch can
*Custom alignment and corner weight.
* I run a mixture of Distilled water, coolant, and Problend 40 below in both the radiator and the aftercooler system.

Everything else is stock, including the tune.

I ran 5 sessions, it was a VERY small group that came out. The car ran FANTASTIC all day!! Coolant never went above 220, oil hit 260, 270 max. Outside temps were about 70 degrees...

The car held full power for start to finish on all sessions...

On this session, there are two GTRs that I come across, Both are very modified, with big HP, not sure how much. They both ran better times then me. I was running 1:51s, and 1:52s. I've done a PB of 1:48s on this track with the C5 and the C6, but both were on Pirelli slicks. The stock tires were almost bald now on the front of the Z.

Anyway, enough BS

Here's the video!!!

Here's another short SLO MO clip from the day!!

very nice. thanks for sharing. did you xpel anything on it? and how would you rate the Z06 vs your other vettes around there?

Badass video and driving! Sound track is awesome! And 152mph on the front straight is moving!

I notice the PDR display is slightly different showing distance and PTM mode on the bottom right. Is that different for '17s or were you not in a PTM sub mode?

Thanks for taking the time to put this together and provide your setup. Can wait to run with you soon! Willow was empty yesterday too!

Joel, Thanks sure beats football on a Sunday afternoon. That white GTR seemed to have a lot of body roll, did you feel the same with it? 270 max oil temps with a 70 ambient doesn't appear the 17's have gained much in the cooling department.

Thanks Buddy, I guess we'll see once things heat up, but temps were very manageable. I did put a bit of a heat shield to block the one cat by the oiler cooler. The white GRT was a Mad man, he was all over the place, and had like 800 HP I was told. I did not feel the same roll.

Thanks, this is the first time I've used the PDR, and am not that familiar with it yet...

thanks, I picked up the Z from the dealer with my trailer, and brought it directly to the Expel installer, did the entire car minus the roof and part of the rear fascia...

I'd have to put the Pirillis on before I'd make a call on how it rates with my other vettes, but I will say I could not hit the same speeds on the straights with the Z that I can on my C5 or even C6.

Yes, windows down, I believe we have to, in case of crash...

Great thread buddy!!
So, can we assume the heating issues are now resolved for the 17?

Good question, I will repeat that I had NO heating issues. But again, it was only 70, and I did add the expansion tank as well as a second radiator for the A/W cooling system...

Even so, the first time out, I did do 2 sessions without doing anything to the air to water setup, and seemed to do OK.

It's just that on the dyno, I could see timing being pulled from intake air temps before we could finish one long pull, even after we added octane.
For the average driver, or even a step above, I think the 17s are pretty good to go. If you like to squeeze all the power out of it, and do it consistently, maybe a bit more cooling on the A/W system.
