there have been many photos here of glowing cast iron stock rotors from member of this forum who track their car. most use NAPA cast rotors, an OEM replacement.. they are cheap to replace.

Iron disks, hard braking at the end of a long straight. Been a part of sports/GT racing pretty much since the move to disk brakes in the '50's. All that energy has to be dissipated somehow, and heat is how.

when I had my 69 Camaro,(19 years old) I ran from the cops for about three miles, quickly ran it into the garage and shut the door. I looked at my front rotors and thought they were on fire !!! Yes I have seen glowing rotors and yes I had to replace them !!!:toetap::toetap::toetap::toetap:

I've not seen it on C5 street cars, but I've seen it on C5's braking hard into Canada corner at Road America. That's a tough track on brakes.

If you head to the track, you'll probably meet a few drivers who can turn stock rotors bright red. Either because they're very good drivers, or because they're supercharged, which makes overloading brakes a lot easier. Chevy did a really good job with the C5 brakes, the rotors are solid, so they're heavy, but they're all directional vane curved rotor designs and the fronts are 325mm x 32mm which is a pretty substantial brake system, and close to as large as you physically fit in the 17" stock front.

Most cars use straight vane brake rotors, because they don't need to be sided, which makes production much cheaper. The problem is the straight vane rotors barely move any air through the ventilation gaps in the brake disc. Curved vane rotors like on our vettes pump air through their interior while rotating, and the faster you're driving the more air they move. The stock brake system is much more than most drivers need, which is why there are so many stories of 100k+ milevettes with their original stock brake rotors (sometimes pads!) still in place.

Have never seen the rotors glow red on my car, but have seen them on race cars.
