Ported stock heads/intake manifold/throttle body?
Going to be installing an LG G5X1E cam here pretty soon and I'm on the fence on whether I want to spend a little more money to port the stock heads, throttle body and intake manifold.
Should I do it? I've got a very reputable corvette shop near me that will do the work, so I'm not worried about them doing it correctly. I just want to know how much rwhp/rwtq I can expect from doing it in addition to the cam install. |
in for answers, as I will probably be looking into the same come spring. most likely at the same shop you are looking at. if you get a chance can you shoot me a pm? would love to hear more of your plan$.

A good set of ported heads should get you an extra 20hp give or take a few. From what I have read on forums LS6 TB and Intake don't gain much if any hp when ported, but you should see better throttle response. I just did a cam, headers, x pipe, cold air intake, cnc ported heads and a tune and I am at 440hp. I wanted to get the TB and Intake ported but after reading and researching it I found that it's not worth it for the LS6, so I am waiting a while and eventually I will go with a fast intake and tb.

When i was doing my research the local tuner told me it be around 1k to get them CNC ...so ill be doing the porting myself and rather spend that extra grand on a fast set up...

the 243 benchmark. |
If you're going to spend that kind of money, I would recommend Trickflow 220 "fast as cast" for about $1500. Have them milled to 59-61cc and you will be happy. BTW, if you think you may ever add a power adder, skip the milling. The Trickflow 215s come CNC, but are over 2k.

Why does it say quantity 1 ? So looks like they want $1,290 per head?

Summit seems to price cylinder heads (at least TF) as single items. The 220 as cast are $865 ea., but I've seen them cheaper from other vendors. They are worth the money, IMO. You can spend a lot, and get a little, or you can spend even more, and... Way of the world, especially for NA engines. I have first gen. 215s, and they really cost, because they required roller rockers, and 7.9" PRs. I had to install mine twice because of a valve problem, and ended up really getting to know my engine.

I'm fairly certain I want to move forward with porting/polishing and getting a valve job gone on my stock 243s. I bought 7.4" TSP hardened pushrods, does that mean I would need shorter pushrods or no?
|
Also looking at doing CNC porting or possible Trickflow as cast 220. The porting is a tossup between AI and TEA leaning towards TEA because they are local.

This is such a bad idea and a great way to trash the heads.

Bad info, especially when you're talking about TEA, or AI; they know what they're doing.

No point to argue on this ....this is not rocket science when I get to the porting part ill make sure to post the results then will see.."unless some one wants to do it for me for free, less work for me"
