2005 Telescoping Wheel Inop

I have a set of 2006 service manuals.

The Electrical Diagram for the Telescoping Wheel shows that the motor is connected to ground through two relays in the seat module.

I have 12 volts to the seat module and also a good ground at the seat connector. The wheel position signal is in the correct range. The In & Out signal to the seat module is also good.

If anyone has a 2005 Service Manual could you check the Elect. Diagram to verify that the In & Out signal to the motor shows them being grounded.

I would think that the years would be the same.

Thanks

I don't have a service manual, but my '05's telescoping wheel doesn't work along with the powered seats and the heated seats. I'm sure mine is the loose connector under the seats, but I just haven't taken the time to zip tie the connectors together.

Are your connectors zip-tied together?

Here is what I found in the 2006-2007 color coded wiring schematics. Hope it helps. It's the same diagram when put together.

If you want the 2006-2007 wiring diagrams as per the pics, e-mail me your e-mail and I'll forward them to you. They are too big to insert in the posts.

Everything else works as it should. does not have zip ties.

I have the service manual for a 2006. The diagram shows the relays on the seat module, the relay when enabled by the Telescoping switch connects one side of the motor to ground. Your diagram does not show the relays on the seat module. I'm trying to determine if the seat module is bad or the motor, without having to take things apart. I will post a pic of the diagram that I have later.

Thanks for posting the diagram.

I don't believe that is my problem, since everything else works.

Here is the schematics from the 2007 GM service manual for telescopic/seat heating circuits.
Arte they similar to your schematics? I don't see any relays or wires from any relay that go to ground.

I've attached a PDF with some info from the 2005 Service manual as well that may be helpful.

In the lower left hand corner of the bottom schematic, the forward and reverse motor signals show the motor being grounded through the relays. It is the same as the 2006 schematic.
I am going to jumper the fwd & rev to ground and see if the motor will run. If it runs then the problem is in the seat module.

Yes, I see that now. It's the motor relay coils.
Thanks
Hopefully you will find the problem.

I had the same problem with my C5. There was a post on how to do a "soft" reset. I did that and it fixed it. I will see if I can find the post. It may be worth a shot.

Here was my post back in 2007 when it seemed to help others  gives step by step directions. I didn't realize that I posted that back in 2007 and it was revived a number of times. Glad it helped so many. This forum is the best!!

Finally getting around to finishing trying to repair the problem, since I have to repair my HUD.

There are two relays in the SCM that reverses the polarity of the voltage supplied to the Telescoping Motor. I will check the voltage across the two wires going to the motor when I actuate the switch in either direction. If there is zero volts the problem is in the SCM. Also I will disconnect the connector at the seat and check the resistance across the motor wires, you should read something other than infinity, this will confirm continuity of the wiring to the motor from the seat connector.

I saw in one of the schematics that the motor had feedback from a resistor (POT) more than likely attached in some way to the gear to give position. In that schematic it was 5v to ground with a wiper giving some voltage in between. It is possible the motor will not move if the feedback loop is not working. You can measure this as well when you check the windings of the motor for resistance.

I checked the position feedback and had 3.5 volts. That should be good.
No voltage from the Seat Module across the orange and tan wires at the seat connector when the switch is actuated. I may jump 12v to the orange and tan wires directly the motor should run.

I unplugged the connector at the seat and applied 12 volts to the orange and tan wires. The
telescoping motor ran. That tells me that the motor and wiring from the seat is good. Had to get the wheel all the way out so I could remove the Instrument Cluster in order to repair my HUD.

The issue is either a bad DSM or it needs to be re-programed for the Telescoping Wheel.
