Bye Vette, Hello Jeep!

A few months ago I sold my 2002 Corvette Z06 (to a dear forum member) and was only driving my Silverado truck. Need for the long bed was gone and I started wanting something "nicer" again, but more practical than the Vette and also fun to drive.

Found this 15 SRT, 29k miles, dual screens, pristine shape. Will try to hold on on mods but I did paint red the front bumper rings and ordered black SRT badges to replace the "Grand Cherokee" on the doors.

The Vette had originally 405 HP and I did headers and ram air. The SRT with 475 looks as fast or faster and the AWD adds a lot of confidence. Plus the interior, sound (19 speakers), computer, big screen, technology like front parking sensors and automatic cruise control.

Last picture of the Vette when Jeff came to pick it up and a few pics of the Jeep:

Man this story sounds exactly like what my boss went through. Corvettes, Silverado's Jeeps.
He bought a new Cherokee back around 13 or 14 and had recalls on top of recalls with all sorts of things and said he had more trouble with that new Jeep than any new vehicle he ever bought and he's had lots of new ones from what we've heard. 21 Vettes total too.
I truly hope your new one doesn't cause you the headaches his did since they really are nice vehicles and he loved it otherwise.
I think he went back 2 or 3 times just for the radio and his wasn't the top end model like your's. Hopefuly they got the bugs out of them now. He gets what he wants satisfaction wise with car dealers when he has problems though and if something doesn't satisfy him it goes back. Good luck with your very nice looking new Jeep, I'd like to have one myself.

Very nice Jeep you bought. Not sure I could trade my C5 for one, but they are impressive vehicles.

At our local Chrysler/Jeep dealer, they have a new white Grand Cherokee SRT on the lot. It is one fine looking SUV. $76K MSRP.

Hope you have better luck with your Jeep than I have had with mine, 37K miles and I have lost track of how many times its been back to the dealer for annoying little problems. Mike

The meaning of the word JEEP:

JUST EMPTY EACH POCKET

Good luck!

Chuck A 01-30-2017 09:01 AM

Very nice, indeed

redvetteman81 01-30-2017 09:19 AM

That's a nice jeep, but not even a thought I would ever entertain, but that's just me.

runner140* 01-30-2017 09:23 AM

It must have been a very difficult decision...

mosimann 01-30-2017 10:04 AM

Due to family (have a little one) and the business (transport tools and sometimes small boxes), the Vette was sitting 90% of the time. Put very few miles on the last 3 years and it was common for it to sit for 1-2 months and not even leave the garage.

At least the Jeep is comfortable, practical and fun to drive.

I'm aware of the issues with Jeep/GC but I believe that today every single vehicle with lots of tech is more subject to issues than a regular car. Also goes for Vettes, as there are several members complaining about engine and electrical failures.

For R$2,500 I got an extended warranty until 2022/100,000 miles. Covers any issue except trim.

I did have to take it for service once, as the DVD/Bluray player wasn't working properly when I bought it. One week later and $0, had a brand new one installed at the dealership. My daughter loved it during our trip from NC to FL.

I run a 300c as well for a daily!

I couldn't imagine the day to day abuse the 300 takes being put on my Vette and I also like the difference between the two. Whenever I switch, it is always noticeable to me.

As for a daily, the 300 is one heck of a choice. Plenty of power and oh so comfy for the long drives.

knewblewkorvette 01-30-2017 01:05 PM

Been thinking about doing the same, get rid of one of my C5s (the 98) for a new vehicle. My newest car is 15 years old (other C5). The average age of my four vehicles is 19.25 years and three of the four have over 100K miles

c5arlen 01-30-2017 02:26 PM

Me?... Just the opposite... Jeep to C5.. Big adjustment.. Jeep is like driving my motor home ... No thanks
