Is there anything "fake" about the C7?

So many cars out there have faux vents, faux exhaust pipes and etc. Mustangs has that fake intake by the rear fenders, Lexus IS-F had those fake tailpipes, I believe STis have fake front fender vents (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Is there anything on the C7 that's fake? I know that on non-Z51 models, the top vents aren't piped to anything. Other than that, are there any fake things on the C7 that is there purely for looks?

Are the rear side vents on a non-Z51 functional?

Steve Garrett 02-14-2017 08:51 PM

OP, just get a Z51 with 3LT interior and don't worry about anything else.

Driver's side is with an automatic. Other is not.

On a Z51 both are functional.

All vents on the Z51 are functional, even the front fender vents. There are zero fake vents.

Z06

- 4 exhaust pipes are unnecessary
- carbon fiber interior doesn't make the car lighter
- small cubby in trunk will not hold my golf clubs
- suede-lined roof does not add to the pimp factor as much as I thought it would

Hmmmmm do you have a convertible? Here is a picture of my 2014 with 2 sets of clubs
(I take the clubs out and lay along the back then stack the two bags up behind the seat. Not pro tour size bags, but not tiny either)

2 overhead bin size suitcases

and my In N Out hat!
dirty clothing bag

I think your clubs might fit if you try my method. Little extra work to pack that way but better than leaving the car home...

Though on all of them the 4 goes to two, it still adds to the resonance. It's not "fake," which was the original question.

Neither does the color. That doesn't make either "fake."

- small cubby in trunk will not hold my golf clubs
Most folks can get clubs in, but that begs the question of it being designed for clubs. That it is a 10 ft3 space does not make it "fake."

That's subjective. It's still not "fake." "Fake" means something that looks like it is for a certain function, but is not. A fake vent doesn't vent anything. None of your examples represent anything that is fake.

My non-z51 manual transmission C7's rear vents are both functional -- now :)

Adding the missing ducting is only about $60 total for converting both sides. True, there are no coolers in the ducting, but it does route air from the top of the fenders back to the low pressure area in the rear grilles.

Is the airflow needed? Probably not, but I don't like vents that are blocked/go nowhere.

A lot of truth in that.

Could you describe in detail how you completed this?

Yep on a standard shift base coupe both, on an automatic base uses one for the trans.

Just get a Z51 M7 like mine and nothing is fake, including having a sports car with an automatic! :hide:

Even the standard trans has a cooler in a Z51, GS and Z06. The other is for the eLSD differential. Both fender intakes are functional as the coolers are behind each rear fender. Air is ducted to the heat exchangers than out the rear vents.

The hood louvers are functional on all cars. The C7 is no longer a bottom breather. Air comes through the grill and a portion is ducted from the top of the radiator through the hood vent. The remainder of the hot air goes out the bottom and the two side air vents on the fenders.
