1957 fuel gauge wiring

The fuel gauge in my 1957 has two posts which I am trying to figure out what wires go to what posts.

Thanks for your reply , but my wiring has been replaced so pink and brown does not match up with what I have. I should have made that clear. what I need is the source of these wires. One should be from the sending unit but what side of the gauge is unknown. The gauge indicates empty all the time and when I tried to test the ohms on the sender it indicated zero no matter where the float was placed.

The pink wire comes from the ignition switch, the brown from the sender.

Thanks so much for your very helpful emails. I followed those instructions and even got a new sender. The problem now is that once the key is in the off position the gas gauge indicates right at empty while the needle moves to less than empty when the car is started or the ignition switch is on.
