do these use pads specific to the caliper or regular pads for vettes? How do you like yours?

My Wilwood D8-4 use the stock pads. T

Wilwood D8-4 and even the D8-6 (a staggered bore version of the same caliper) use the standard D8 pad. Both those from Wilwood as well as any other brand or compound of shape.

There are however only two compounds from Wilwood: BP10 for the street and Poly A for true, hard core racing only.

so, can they use standard corvette pads???

One of my front calipers is leaking again and at 175 to replace them i am done with leaking ass stock replacements.

My VBP SS calipers (lip seals NOT O-rings) have been on my car since 1985 with zero issues...a quality rebuilt 4 micron finish bore caliper should run you around $100...Do not buy C3 calipers from mass parts retailers like Advanced, Autozone, etc in my opinion. Where did you get your current leaking caliper from?

Tod @ TCE had the best prices & service when I bought my Black D8's for my Vette. He's a supporting vendor on top of that.

They accept any pad that the stock caliper can. Tod TCE pointed out other options as well. They're a great caliper IMO.

That looks like them and from the description sounds correct...remember mine are from 1985..all 4 of them..and still on the car. Going to bleed new fluid into them this spring...

Bought my Wilwood a few weeks ago from a Todd. Good guy and the best price!

The willwoods look like great pieces and quality made I am sure but their big advantage over the stock properly functioning and made rebuilt SS caliper is really just the weight savings of aluminum over cast iron. You will not experience any better braking using a Willwood with the stock 12 inch rotors since the pad size is the stock OEM one and the total brake swept area for the 2 systems is the same. You will notice better braking with the D8-6 (6 piston willwood caliper) along with a 13/14 inch front rotor if you want to spend the big money for that setup which is essentially unnecessaryin my opinion on the street.

I literally just yesterday was out my the 78 355 L-82 bombing around on back rounds at speeds I should not have been going (60-70 mph) testing the bigger primary jets I just installed in the Holley 650 along with the monster 1 3/4 inch LTH's and a clown in a Cox cable truck pulled out from a side street at 5 mph. I had to haul down at 80-90% braking with the stock calipers/stock rotors/Performance Friction pads/SS flex brake hoses and I must say the C3 stock brakes are pretty darn impressive.......no lock up, no drama (a very slight pull to the left but pads were cold), positive VERY linear brake pressure...incredible for a 60's designed brake system. I do have 255/45/17 ZR ultra high performance summer only tires though. Ths car definitely can outbrake my 94 mustang GT with front 13 inch cobra brakes and my DD Chrysler 300 with the hemi brake system (14 inch front rotors and massive dual piston Floating calipers).

Here is some testing before and after with D8-4 and tire changes.
