Should I buy a Manual

With all the A8 TC problems, would you buy a manual instead???
I'm so close to pulling the trigger and now getting scared off from the A8.

I did, it's a hell of a lot of fun. I have a 2016 Stingray built 9/15 and have had zero issues.

Get a M7 if you are going to worry or get a slightly used 2014 A6 which is very reliable. Their are many problem free A8 C7'S out there but polls show between 15-20% have or having problems at least according to this forum.

Some other benefits are rev match. It's the best thing since syncromesh! Particularly around town when cursing in 5th and making a turn, shift directly to 3rd and get a perfect match on the downshift!

Another is you don't have to deal with going into 4 cylinder mode unless you want. It only happens in Econo Mode setting. Never used in 3 1/2 years except to try as a test! With an automatic in goes into 4 cylinder operation in any mode unless you put it in manual and use the paddles to shift.

I have an A8, I will more than likely trade for a manual in the not too distant future. Wife and I both miss rowing the gears in the toy car.

I bought my ZO6 2 weeks ago with the M7 and never looked back. The thrill of shifting thru the gears is true sports car excitement. I had the A6 in my 2013 C6 and hated it. Slow to shift and just no fun driving it even in manual mode.

Yes .. if you have any doubts .. you will always be happier with a Manual. And if you intend to keep your C7 for a while ... who knows how much longer you will be able to purchase a Brand New Corvette with a Manual Transmission.

M7 all the way. Owned 7 vettes all manual transmissions.

PeteC7 03-12-2017 12:06 AM

I'd get the M7 even if the auto was a cool running dual clutch. More fun and cheaper since the M7 option is free.

boraxman 03-12-2017 12:18 AM

No way I would be getting an A8, especially if buying used... an expensive fix if out of warranty..then who wants their $50k plus car torn apart.

brooklync5 03-12-2017 12:20 AM

Best way to drive a corvette is with a manual transmission. It's just a better driving experience. Autos get boring.

sTz 03-12-2017 12:24 AM

M7! Get'em while you can

Outlaw Joe 03-12-2017 12:38 AM

all my Corvette have been manual's 1967 all the way to the 2016 wouldn't have it any other way.

If the A8 was bullet proof.....I would still buy the M7. To me, it is a matter of what is more fun to drive! Automatic transmissions in a Corvette takes away much of the fun of driving this type of car! Again, that's me!

I've owned both auto and manual transmission Corvettes. Both are fine. Buy what you will enjoy most.

Automatic transmissions outsell manual transmissions for a reason - and it's not because drivers are lazy - it's because they have a preference. It's really that simple.

I've been rowing gears for more than 60 years... that too can be boring...

I find the MN7 to be the vaguest transmission of any manual transmission car I've ever owned and I've owned about 60 cars with manual transmissions.

Now, my Ferrari, that's another story entirely.

Your car, your decision....

6speedC6 03-12-2017 06:43 AM

If you want an automatic than go buy a Camry!! LOL
just kidding! I had both and found the auto FOR ME no fun so back to a manual. Like someone else said, get what will make you enjoy the car

davidtcpa 03-12-2017 08:02 AM

You will not regret an M7.

lakemg 03-12-2017 08:47 AM

If you're torn between manual and auto, I'd go manual. If you really deep down want the auto, I would go that route as long as I was buying a new one or a used one with a bunch of warranty still left on the clock. I've been a manual guy all my life, but decided to try the A8 and I love it.

Corgidog1 03-12-2017 09:24 AM

Even if the A8 churned out dollar bills as I drove, I would still get a M7.

Zaskar 03-12-2017 10:48 AM

YES YOU SHOULD, much more FUN!
