1976 L-82 4spd Full Restoration

10 Attachment(s)
Fully restored, matching numbers, comes with original matching numbers engine, and a built 406 small block engine (currently in car), which was built to look the same as the factory engine (i.e aluminum intake manifold and Sportsman II heads were blasted and painted Chevy orange, factory finned aluminum L-82 valve covers, runs on Q-Jet with factory air cleaner, etc). This set up makes it a blast to show or drive, and still preserves the original engine.

Everything was restored, from suspension to interior. I'm not a car show guy, but when I drove it to the Mid America Funfest in Effingham, it was picked out in the parking lot and won the Celebrity Choice award by Lance Miller, who runs Corvettes at Carlisle (largest Corvette show in the world). (Award photo at http://image.mamotorworksmedia.com/i...&h=1000&w=1000

Any parts that have been removed come with the car (for example, it was upgraded to Gymkhana option springs and sway bars, but I have the originals; have the original catalytic convertor but it's not on the car, etc). (Car is shown in photos with a MOMO steering wheel, I used to work for their parent company. I have the 76 steering wheel also, will put it on if you prefer)

Details of the 406 SBC are available, a few are Callies Forged 4340 Crankshaft, Forged SRP flat top Pistons, SCAT Forged H-Beam connecting rods, Comp Cams XE-274 cam, World Products Sportsman II heads (ported and port matched), ARP hardware, Competition Cams roller rockers.

I have owned the car since 1993, I don't think I have averaged more than 100 miles per year the last 10 years. I simply don't get the time to enjoy it any more, so it is time to let it go to someone who can, and appreciate all the effort that went into it. Original engine and engine stand included with purchase. Let me know if you have any questions. Price is $19,500. e-mail to sgwarhover"at"hotmail.com. Many pics available, car is located in St. Louis, MO

Nice Car!

warhovs 03-30-2017 09:45 PM

A few more pics, per a few requests. Mileski, the vacuum lights still work with the 406. (I believe they are a little slower?) The displacement of that motor helps provide vacuum more than a smaller displacement would with the same cam duration.

Have you a Soundfile from the Car?

warhovs 04-05-2017 09:01 PM

A few have asked for more details on the 406 in the car (not the stock engine on the stand):

Callies 4340 Crank
Cam: Comp Cams XE 274 cam
Rockers: Comp Cams 1.6 ratio Roller Rockers
Springs: 115 lbs @ seat, 335 lbs open
Connecting Rods: Scat 6" I-Beam
Pistons: SRP Forged 138101
Heads: World Products Sportsman II, fully ported - 74.5cc chamber volume, 72cc as cast
Valves: 2.06" Intake, 1.60" Exhaust
Intake: Edelbrock Performer, port matched to Fel-Pro 1205 Gasket (tallest intake I was comfortable with under 76 hood)
Block # 330817
Windage Tray: Milodon 32101
1 5/8" ceramic coated headers

Compression ratio is about 9.9, runs on 91 octane pump gas.

Sorry Turbochris, I currently don't have a soundfile of the car.

Hope this helps, just let me know of any questions.

What a deal! :willy:

warmbrus 04-08-2017 11:58 PM

Very nicely done - great attention to detail! Wish I could find a 63 that looked half as good.

...one of the nicest '76s I've ever seen. Nicely done.

I've never seen that style air cleaner with the 2nd hose going to the windshield cowl area... is that an OEM deal or something you added to promote better induction?

Nice car for sure.

mardyn

warhovs 04-17-2017 04:31 PM

Good eye mardyn! The factory setup for cold air induction on a 76 L-82 is a single snorkel over the radiator. It's effective for the stock engine, but simply couldn't flow enough air to support this engine (and probably why GM went dual snorkel in 78 for the L82) I tried an open element filter, and while it improved performance, a thermocouple I placed in the air cleaner was getting well over 170 degrees for intake air temperature at stoplights, which of course was hurting performance. I settled on adding a second snorkel back to the cowl, which really helped (cool, high pressure air). I hesitated to do this, knowing it's not stock, but it was just the right thing to really make it run well. If someone wanted to take it back to pure stock, you would need to replace the lower housing of the air cleaner assembly, where the hole for the second snorkel was placed.
Thanks!
Scott

OK, it has finally stopped raining here in St. Louis!

earlyseventy6 05-11-2017 07:59 PM

and i noticed, like mine, you kept the passenger side view mirror stock.

TXGS507 05-16-2017 04:50 PM

Very cool C3.... A lot if attention to detail on this one. I am normally not a C3,4 fan... Current Corvettes include my 01 C5Z, 08 C6Z... As luck would have it, I have been looking for a reason to drive up to St. Charles to visit my Dad. ( I am here in Dallas). Would you consider a trade for one of my other toys..? 2002 True Blue Ford Lightning? PM me if interested....
