people that think your rich bc you have a 93 c4 corvette

how many of you guys get annoyed when someone makes a 'must be nice'-type comment when they see or hear that you have a c4 corvette?

im not sure if my c4 looks newer to them than it is, but IMHO its a $10,000 car at most and probably less bc i have it modified with a supercharger.

someone will pull up in a 65k new diesel jacked up dualie pickup truck and claim that my job must be going really well for me to be able to afford that......

jay23ls 03-30-2017 04:22 PM

haha I think this only happens if your C4 is looking really clean that day and your paint is popping.

My aunt thought it was a $40-50k car. I just laughed.

I think whats the most interesting is when it catches young guys and girls attention, like teens or early 20s bc they usually dont like anything but the coolest newest shit on the street :crazy2:

FAUEE 03-30-2017 04:41 PM

That doesn't happen to me at all. My C6 sometimes, but even then not that often.

People assume anything with 2 seats is expensive because it's impractical so you must have another vehicle.

Simply say "Thank You" and smile knowing you have the better deal, especially if they drive a Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, etc.

Yep, I get that a lot.

ValourUnbound 03-30-2017 05:29 PM

I haven't gotten that just yet, but I am still hunting for the perfect C4.

I imagine the real issues with getting a 2 seater like this are A) space to park it and B) a backup car for real life.

What are you talking about? This is real life! My C4 will be my daily driver (and only driver) for a while until I can pick up my next DD, a C7. :-P

My wife recently told me we can stick with two seaters since no kids are in the cards (and haven't for almost 10 years). If I get anything bigger, it'll be an F250 for pulling the boat. Talk about having an issue with space to park it...

While no one has made a comment to me about the cost of the C4, a few friends were surprised to find out they're so cheap.

BLUDICE 03-30-2017 05:56 PM

I just tell they I drive an old truck so I can own an old car.

There is truth here. "It's a Corvette, therefore it must be expensive".

I picked up my 94 last November; those who have seen it think it cost me an arm and a leg because of the low mileage and excellent appearance.

My buddy who just bought a nice motorcycle was stunned to learn he paid more for it than I paid for the Corvette.

I was getting gas this week and a guy came over to compliment me on my car and he said he sees them sell for 40-50k on whatever auction on tv. I take it as a compliment if I can have my car clean and nice enough looking with 82k for someone to think it's worth 4 to 5 times as much.

rocco16 03-30-2017 06:27 PM

Cars such as the Corvette are looked upon as toys to almost everyone. And, they are not cheap when purchased new. Ergo, a person who owns one is thought to have some discretionary dollars floating around.
There's some truth to it. Most people DO think a clean C4 costs much more than they actually do, though.....

PLRX 03-30-2017 06:31 PM

I've been getting those comments for 20 years. The funny part was a women driving one of those Lincolns big SUVs, yes the ones that are like 70k

pucksdown 03-30-2017 06:32 PM

I get that all the time. I just let them think what ever they want. I never tell them that I got a deal of a lifetime on a 62k mile 1989 for $5 grand.

People here Corvette and automatically assume big $$$$ regardless of the year.

I also get the "it's your midlife crises" to which I politely tell them, they can call it whatever the hell they want..I'm driving a Corvette :)

Sometimes, I think the people are being sarcastic.

The world is full of ignorant judges

Only a fool would say "you must be rich" or they are poking fun...One or the other

Hardly. Most of them have no clue what they are looking at other than it's a sports car. My buddy owns 2 MBs and his wife's friend thought they spent big bucks on cars. Turns out, his 2 used cars (he is an MB tech so he can fix anything they make cheaper) cost less than the lady's Ford SUV. Most of the complements I get are from numbnuts that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground which is why I wish they would STFU and not even talk so I don't have to give them the obligatory "Thank You".

I wouldn't. A complement from someone who doesn't know shit don't impress me. I guess I am not that hard up for their admiration if they don't know what they are talking about.

They would have to rise above the "stupid" level to be able to be sarcastic.

Maybe that is when you sell them a "get rich quick" scheme?
