Clutch noise in 62 Arghhh

So rebuilt my engine this winter top to bottom, had trans inspected (clean bill of health) replaced clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate, and resurfaced flywheel.
I have driven my car three times since getting it all back together. No issues with engine, or transmission.

Today fired it up for a ride and didn't even make it down the street when I started getting a metal on metal noise when I push in the clutch. The car makes the noise anytime I have the clutch in....arggghhh!

I don't even want to spend one of my few days off dealing with this today...just hope it isnt the throw out bearing. I have installed them before and never had an issue. Figured if there was an issue it would have come up on one of the other drives...

any suggestions?

Can you tell us the make of the parts was, and was the TO bearing all metal. What was the condition of the clutch fork? Dennis

Centerforce clutch and TO bearing. Fork looked fine

hopefully you haven't installed the disc backwards (with the springs toward the flywheel)

Installed properly...plus drove the car three times with no other issues or hickups

check that clutch flywheel cover is not hitting crankshaft. sometimes they get too close where radiused at the crank/ flywheel bolt area.

L78racer is spot on. After pulling the tranny twice, changing the entire clutch, throw out bearing and the pilot bushing I still had that metallic grinding noise. Figuring it must be something rubbing I carefully looked up behind the flywheel and sure enough the bolts that hold the flywheel on have a few threads showing that were rubbing on that thin metal plate that keeps road crud off the flywheel. Here's what I found. A little filing of that have circle took care of the problem.

Including me!

When you shove the clutch in, you move the end play of the crank forward a slight amount and the bolts touch the flywheel shield.

Later shield have a lip that hoods over the oil pan to prevent this.

this is how close it runs with a one-piece rear main seal, had to trim to fit..., BUT the dust cover will help keep it out.

It was the flywheel cover! Damn, thanks everyone! That metallic sound really made me think the worst! Finally was able to work on it last night and figured I would pull it first and test the car. Noise gone-no issues. Did a little filing and no issues!
Thanks everyone for the helpful info! Thats why I value this site!
