Does anyone still use the stock Nav?

I went to use my 2005 vert nav the other day and man, has the world moved on! The green screen, lousy graphics and minimal features pretty much drove me back to my iPhone. :crazy2: :cry

EVRose 04-18-2017 10:57 PM

I use it if I'm not sure of where I'm going and it works perfect every time.

jrose7004 04-18-2017 11:01 PM

I use my iPhone.

Bruze 04-18-2017 11:02 PM

I don't even have nav, or a smart phone () and I haven't gotten lost in years.

owc6 04-18-2017 11:05 PM

Yes, I still use it, and in almost twelve years, it has not been able to get me there exactly twice. This is with a 2007 disc.

I much prefer the HUD integration to fooling around with a phone while driving. Once you learn how the system works, it works just fine. WGAS if the graphics aren't state of the art, when it gives you HUD directions?

I replaced mine with an aftermarket head unit with built in navigation. I found the stock nav/stereo to be embarrassingly bad in so many categories. Especially considering my car is a 2012. I think it would of been hard to find a worse example in any 2012 model than what GM was putting in this $70k car.

65GGvert 04-18-2017 11:46 PM

Absolutely. Holding/reading an Iphone while driving a manual Corvette in traffic just doesn't work for me. I had a little trouble until I actually read the manual and practiced a little. The stock nav has some features the others don't. Love the next turn and street name in the HUD, and the radio sound muting for Nav directions.

HBsurfer 04-18-2017 11:47 PM

I still use mine. It gets me where I want to go every time, which is all I expect from a nav system. A big plus is that I can see it in my HUD.

You know green is just one of the four color schemes you can choose, right?

I find it always gets me to where I am going. Plus if you get into the diagnostic mode there is more info you can get like, your coordinates, software info, vechicle info, satellite info:

Define "Diagnostic Mode"

It this "service only" mode? Where you hold the "start" button for 5 or more seconds?

This '05 owner would like to know all all of which you are telling us. :yesnod:

I use mine and while I don't like the screen, It works! Just like it should. Gets me there every time I use it. I also like the fact that the directions post on the HUD. Convenient.

Go to the navigation screen and hit the menu button. When the menu screen comes up hold your finger on the screen right next to the YELLOW menu button until the pinpad comes up and enter code 295660 and hit the ok button. You are now in diagnostic mode. Car must not be moving when you do this. Good luck!

HUD rules! Works well. Have the 2012 disc in my '05. A little cumbersome for entry, though.

Sky High 04-19-2017 12:20 AM

BTW once you are in Diagnostic Mode you can then start driving, you just cannot initiate it when you are moving.

Dr Bee 04-19-2017 12:45 AM

never once. phone mounted on the right side of center column works much better, clean graphics, user friendly, turn-by-turn voice directions, all contacts and location points.... never met a stock in-dash nav that worked better than a basic smartphone running google maps.

TorchRedFred 04-19-2017 12:53 AM

I can't help but think that all the guys that say they like the stock navigation head unit still have their old school flip phones.

It has a valuable option, IMO, that no aftermarket HU has. For me that makes it worth keeping. What difference does graphic quality make when it verbally tells you where to go and you see direction right in front of you on the hud?
