Ls3 nitrous build

Not really much of a build but decide to pull the trigger on some go fast parts. Here's a list of what I have ordered, is there anything else I should consider to be somewhat safer with this set up? Also is doing a cam swap worth the money? The performance shop here in town wants $1500 in just labor for a cam swap. Goal is to be around 500-550 whp
Parts list
TSP long tubes
Arp exhaust studs
Lingenfelter 2 step
Nitrous outlet ls3 corvette kit
Extra 10lb bottle
Dual bottle holder
Nos 2 stage window switch
Dual big show purge kit
Prosport fuel pressure gauge
Aem wideband
Halltech mf103
This is all I have as of now, planning on running a 100-150 shot the car is a 08 Base A6. Any suggestions on stuff I'm missing or should consider getting please let me know!

I would think you should easily be able to hit 500 without a cam.

No doubt, just was wondering if other people thought the price for a cam swap was worth the power.

When you talk HP per dollar there won't be another part or set of parts you could buy to gain more at that price point.

GS_DAN 05-16-2017 09:51 AM

Having the Cam is nice since the additional 60-80rwhp is always there and you can stomp on it whenever your want. $1500 sounds high for just labor. Nitrous is fun as hell but just more work.

You would also need more fuel system if adding a cam, don't want to be pulling 6xx off the fuel rail on pump gas with the stock LS3 pump.

I was wondering about that, would a BAP do what I needed? IM assuming id need injectors too?

Stock injectors are fine, injectors don't come in to play with nitrous setups as you typically pull off the fuel rail. A standalone fuel system would be the best way to go. Can run higher octane and not have to pull off the stock fuel system.

Is a stand alone necessary if Im just doing 100-150 shot only?

GS_DAN 05-16-2017 11:53 AM

Not necessary but usually recommended. can always add it later

A BAP with a 100 shot is fine. Hook up the racetronix wiring kit and only have it activate with the nitrous. Anything more I would go stand alone. Necessary, no, but the safety it adds to a 150 is the main advantage.

And yes, a cam is totally worth it, if not for the sound alone.1500 seems a bit steep though.

You think I will need a BAP? Seems like everyone has their own opinion on what to run... Seems like I keep having to buy more and more, could have almost went F/I at this point.

Yup.

Chiselchst 05-18-2017 11:11 AM

...and be well above 500 w/o burning thru bottles w/o cam. Stock drive ability too.

Good luck!

I think people very often confuse the actual cost of nitrous. If your a bolt on car spraying a 100 shot, then that's fine. But once you start making more power, it usually adds up to a supercharger kit.

If you race just four times a month and use a ten LB bottle each night (goes quick), your looking at a very minimum of $200 a month. Closer to $300.

Nitrous is cheaper initially, but once you start throwing in controllers, standalone, proper pressure control, bottle fills, ect. your knocking on the $5k door.

Not trying to discourage anyone because when it hits it is fun as hell, just expect to spend more.

I put one on. I think it will help with any potential lean spike on the hit. I purchased a lightly used one for $125.

It's all a learning game I guess, I'll definitely know what to do with my next car! Parts are starting to show up, should have the nitrous kit here tomorrow. Had one of the guys weld up my wideband bung tonight. Gonna be a fun weekend in the garage.

Well got the exhaust on, wasn't that bad for the price. A lift would have made it a lot easier. But I didn't even pay attention to my x pipe and welded my wideband bung after the x which happens to be at the mulfer side on TSP kit. I just figured the x would have been after the collectors. Any issue with running a wideband that far back?

Got the solenoids all mounted and the purge line ran. I need to take it off and make it look cleaner, otherwise just have some wiring left and that should be about it.
