Left and right windshield trim - has elongated
 

Please see these photos and notice how this thin strip of windshield trim has elongated by about 3/8" on both sides. It not protrudes above the horizontal trim piece that run across the top of the windshield.

It'a a 2008 Vette, and I have service records from original owner that shows a dealer-installed windshield replacement in late 2009, so I would assume it was all done correctly. The windshield has the GM logo. Al of the other trim around the window is in absolutely perfect condition.

Is this a common this to happen on these cars, even when the windshield has not been replaced?

Definitely not normal aging process. On my 06 replacement window the trim still looks factory. Hopefully someone else will chime in on quick fix. Maybe a razor blade will cure it.:confused:

I've never seen that before.

Does there seem to be a corresponding gap in the center somewhere (like they used two pieces)? If so, then you can "inch" the trim back where it belongs. If not, I'd just "trim and tuck" it back into place.

Normally, OEM trim like that shrinks, not stretches, but since the windshield was replaced, who knows what they used.

Looking at the pictures more closely, that windshield install is all kinds of effed up!

None of top edge of the windshield should stick up out of the trim like that! :eek:

My windshield did exactly the same thing. The windshield was obviously replaced at some point. I checked all over to see if it had pulled up somewhere and left a gap. I did not see a gap anywhere, so trimmed it off, and glued it down flat.

My stock 07 trim has lifted at the top like that (side trim). Seems like a fairly common problem.

My 2009 C6 has the same exact tabs. I bought it new and do not suspect that the windshield was ever replaced. I snipped them off with a pair of small sharp pliers.

My old 2010 looked exactly like that with 40 k miles when I purchased it.

this is common on these cars and is made to slide back in place.using both hands put downward pressure on trim piece and slide back into position that you want.this is simple fix unless some one has modified something.get a second set of hands if need be to guide the bend on top trim piece into place.no cutting required

This is very common on the C6 and other cars that use this design

it comes from the fact that the rubber strip expands and contracts at a different rate that the corresponding plastic trim that it is attached to eventually causing the rubber to stretch

take a razor blade to it and it will be fine for the next 10 years :thumbs:

My 2010 corvette has the same problem... I guess I will just trim it...

I'm going to try this tomorrow! My 2010 GS is doing the same thing on the passenger side!

My 08 was doing it. It's easy to trim off.

If it appears to be long on the top then chances are it will appear to be short on the bottom. Put a soapy solution on it and work it down into place. DON'T use WD40 it will stain the flat black paint on the trim.

It is is not only slid into a groove , it also has adhesive on it which will not allow it to slide .... Just cut it real nice with a razor blade and it will be fine

Mine moved as well as Irok's did........

I had the same issue, i just trimmed it with a razor blade and i used JB Weld to glue it back down, secured it with painters tape until the glue cured and it's been fine ever since, that was a year ago. also i don't think my windshield has ever been replaced.

Same here. Happened on my 07 from the factory. I would say if your car sits out in the sun a lot it would be more likely to happen. I'm on my first replacement windshield and it is starting to do the same thing again. I just push it back down instead of trimming it.
