Body Side molding
 

I just bought a 2002 Corvette and it has the matching color body side molding in the middle of the door and part of the front fender.

I prefer the look of the car without the body side molding and would like to remove it. Can anyone tell me if it is bolted on with holes in the door for the bolts or is it glued on and I can take it off with Dental floss.

Would be great to hear from someone who has take it off with success.

Side moldings are hideous on a vette

I like them. Kind of boring without them.

Do you think the double side tape will have left any staining of the paint or a residue that won't come off.

It is possible that the paint surrounding the side moldings has faded over time so there may be a paint mismatch when you remove them. But you won't know until you take the BSMs off.

If you have any tape adhesive residue left after removal, some Goo Gone or even WD-40 should work.

Obviously you don't need BSM on a garage queen show car. For those of us that actually use their cars I think it's a wonderful option and I am glad it is on mine.

Actually when I was looking to buy a Corvette, BSM was one of the main factors to consider.
When I saw an ad, and the car didn't have BSM, I wouldn't even open the ad to read more about the car.
BSM makes the Vette look like it is moving, when it is still parked.
A great option to an already awesome vehicle.

Whether you like it or not the BSM certainly makes a difference in the look of the car. Before I started researching vettes I thought the ones with BSMs were different years, I ruled those ones out.:shrug:

Will leave unfaded paint color behind...I remember when I repainted my front license plate cover with the real "torch red". It wasn't the same shade as the rest of the Vette.:thumbs:

OK so to answer your question without getting into the BSM debate they are secured with an adhesive tape. I removed mine with fishing line used in a sawing motion. Applying heat carefully from a heat gun or hair dryer will speed up the process. As pointed out residue can be removed with any number of products on the market. I used WD-40 and it worked well.
Start with the short spear on the front fender. Then if there is any paint mis-match you can re-tape that short piece and stop, or at least you will know what will have to be addressed on the rest of the car.
