I'm an idiot

replaced my 06' Z06 transmission fluid with Dexron VI instead of Dexron III...is this a minor issue of drain and redo with III issue?

RamAir972003 06-18-2017 11:39 PM

Just redrain it no prob at all

RamAir972003 06-18-2017 11:46 PM

Actually that is fine they don't make 111 anymore you will be fine...

Gary2KC5 06-19-2017 12:07 AM

cool
thanks

Just drain it out and put a better fluid like Royal Purple Synchromesh in there. That is what RPM transmissions recommends.

Michael_D 06-19-2017 10:20 AM

If you want to stay GM, you need to get the manual transmission gear oil. It is Dex3.

This is a debated topic with opinions all over the place..... Just like everything else. I just went through this exercise and got all kinds of comments. Amsoil was highly touted. The RP, not so much. Lot's of mixed views on it.

I ended up staying with GM fluid.

And you're not an idiot. It took me ten minutes to convince the GM parts counter guy that Dex 4 was not for my vehicle and that GM still made Dex3.

RPM rebuilt the trans, so I will go with the RP.

I'm sure the others will be a good choice also, but this time I have to go with the guys at RPM.

Thanks for all the info guys.

OK officially not an idiot.

I get my RP and look up where exactly the drain plug is in the service manuals...even though the owners manual states to use III the service manual states to us VI.

I put the RP in mine and could barely shift it. Switched it out for the Ames Oil and very smooth after that. This was at about 4K miles on the car.

After visiting RPM and seeing the amount of transmissions they do.. I'm using RP. Doesn't hurt that I already had it on the shelf either. :D

..and of those so many transmissions, how many are repeat customers, and why??

I too tried RP, solely based on RPM's recommendation, was not impressed; running Amsoil now and so far, so good.

There are many loyal RPM customers. In my experience, moreso than most trans rebuilders. It seems the people who hate RP rip it out immediately, they don't generally complain about it 10k miles later when something grenades in the trans.

FWIW, RPM also told me they recommended Torque Drive. I told them I used Joe Gibbs STF and they said that was "probably fine too". I don't think RPM has a vested interested in forcing people to use RP.

Running Ames in my trans and diff with no regrets.

Good feedback. Ask them about running Redline - they specifically said do not run Redline in diffs, and I've already proved to myself it doesn't work well in the 2011 trans (although in my T56 in the C5 it worked great). They claim the issue was lack of wear protection.

Also interested. Specifically with RP. Also are you T56 or 6060?

I have a T56 and been running bulk crap from Sears (long story). I have noticed no tangible difference.
