Terrible paint in hatch?

3 Attachment(s)
I picked up my Z over the weekend and after I got home, I noticed some really bad paint work inside the hatch. Unfortunately that was after driving 500 miles to get it home.

It's used and has 13k miles, so I don't know if something happened to it and it was repainted poorly or if it came that way from the factory.

Anyone have any ideas? I contacted the dealer this morning, but I haven't heard anything yet.

No joke, that has been a factory option on most C7s for years.

Wow, that's... amazing. Is there any chance of getting GM to fix it? I'm guessing not, especially since I bought it used (although it is Certified).

I was in the same boat. My bumper to bumper was up a few weeks after I bought it. Dealer kind of just shrugged their shoulders at me.

Since your's is certified, you have a better case to have them fix since there is no way that was missed during the inspection.

Dealer might fix it as a courtesy since he wants your business in the future. Play nice and tell him that you really like the dealership and look forward to many happy years and future cars with them.

Since the dealer is 500 miles away, the only real chance I have is if they'll pay for a local dealer to fix it, or if it's somehow covered under the bumper to bumper or because it's Certified.

I'll talk with them later today, hopefully they'll help.

Of course talk to your local dealer. He wants a long time business relationship with you and most will do what it takes to get future business.

Post up some pics, but if inside the hatch I'd let it go vice attempt a respray.

Can you not see the pics in the first thread? They are showing up for me.

Ah okay, attached them instead.

If that's indeed factory finished, and you indeed have a bumper to bumper warranty, I see no way any dealer could deny a warranty claim on it... I mean there is no denying that's unacceptable. If one dealer denied me I'd go to the next one. Someone will fix that.

flashburn 06-19-2017 11:40 AM

Okay, that's promising. So weird that two previous owners didn't care enough to have it fixed. Both of the owners worked at car dealerships too.

Did you confirm via Carfax or other source that this car had a clean title, with no damage? I'm wondering if that hatch hasn't already been swapped out? Per the pics, that looks like something someone would do with a rattle can in their garage. The line isn't even straight.

Yep, Carfax is clean.

It doesn't look like spray paint to me. I just had the windows tinted and even the guy tinting it says he see's "all" (probably not all) of them have this issue.

My brand new (off the trailer) Z07 had a similar issue in the same spot, although not nearly as bad. On mine, there is little body color paint showing through and the black paint is rough to the touch. I was disappointed, but just figured it was normal and I could live with it. Your situation on the other hand looks horrendous. How on earth did this get past inspection? I'd have that fixed under warrantee.

My 2016 white Z06 has paint issues also but not that bad. I haven't said anything to my dealer because it's not that bad. Good luck getting selling dealer to do anything because they will figure you won't be back anyways. I would try though..

Paint in hatch

Just think in twenty years some restorer is going to go and try and mimic the factory original finish.

mtaylor 06-20-2017 06:18 PM

The paint has been the only really disappointing part of this car. I have a 17 and have to get driver side fender painted Ihave no idea how they missed that it wasn't completely covered during inspection and the front bumper because the paint is peeling.

All they would need is a can of spray paint.
