Anyone run a blown Marauder before?
A good buddy of mine is waiting in anticipation to get back his '03 merc marauder (about 40k on the odo) he just had the 03-04 termi cobra blower installed along w/ supporting mods (car had headers/intake) + 4.10 gears. Made 450whp/439tq on a dynojet.
I don't actually think its any faster than my bolt-on '03 Z (my car w/ ARH 1.75" LT's & catted mids, ported TB, Vararam made 385whp/363 tq on a stingier mustang dyno) - despite having some power advantage its a 4 speed auto on 245mm continental summer street tires - not sure he'd have much traction until he gets some DR's - but the #'s are impressive & the car is very unique. Unfortunately for him I'm getting a stage 2 cam package installed by Slowhawk before the end of the summer so......I'll probably be that much faster AND put down more HP lol:D:lurk: |
Just checked the weight, the Marauder is around 4200 lbs. 450whp is not that much power for a car that heavy. You have about an 1100 lb weight advantage on it....that's massive. Sounds like a cool car he has but I doubt it's any faster than low to mid 12's (on dr's) with all that weight.

. Either way....after the cam my HP/weight ratio will be around where a stock hellcat sits so I suppose I have little to be concerned w/ when it comes to the blown merc! |
The Marauder is way heavier and handles like a boat- you would especially destroy it in any sort of race that involves actual turning.
|
He's going to need every horse to compete with you being he's so heavy . I would think he will never get out of the hole like a 390 horse vette will . Race him from a dead start and not a roll . Takes a lot of torque to get that 4200 pound pig rolling
|
Tell your friend to put away the crack pipe. You don't want to be involved with anybody stupid enough to Terminize a car better left terminated.

Why waste money on an OEM Eaton blower at this point? There are so many other (better) options available...even used if cost was an issue. :crazy2:
Also I know it is very common for termi cobra owners to pull the stock blower to swap for whipple etc. which equates to there being cheap low mileage factory blowers being sold in the used parts sections of forums. |
1) Eaton swapped Marauders are cool AF
2) you will freight train him |
Sounds like a really cool car but shouldn't be too hard to outrun him.
I do think it will be a bit closer than many people here are making it seem though. |

OP is probably making 390-395 whp, 3100 lbs with aggressive stock gearing. Friends car is making only 50-60 more whp but 1100 lbs heavier. 4:10's will help that car but that is a huge weight difference...
50-60whp and like 80wtq more, through an automatic, with 4:10 gears. Plus he probably has much more torque throughout the entire powerband. Should be a fun race either way. |
If the OP has a decent launch he will pull bus lengths on the merc. no matter how you slice it 1100 lbs is a HUGE disadvantage. In this matchup there is no coming back from the gap that will be put on it.

Sure, like I said he should be able to outrun the mercury, but people are talking like its going to be a blowaway victory.

its going to be quick but the z will have the weight advantage he would have to be in the 550 to 600 hp range to overtake you with the weight imo

I ran a bolt-on 04 Cobra (472whp 502wtq) in my stock 02Z and he only pulled a car and a half on me. A blown Marauder isn't gonna come anywhere near a bolt-on C5Z.

let us know how it turns out... the outcome might make your buddy go out and spend some more money:lol:

It's been 2 weeks, they should have settled the score by now.
