Just went Z51 to Grand Sport!

Exact same exterior and interior colors too

Wow, mag ride is awesome. Can't say enough about that. If you are going to get any one option on a Stingray, get mag ride. It goes from race car stiff to comfortable with the rotation of a knob.

The brakes are definitely better, but Z51 was 100% adequate for street driving. If you don't even track, this is virtually zero value added.

It might be in my head but the wider tires' grip is noticeable even on the street. It definitely grips better out of the hole and in a straight line, which is to be expected with an additional 50mm of rear tire and softer springs.

I love the rear brake vent scoops. I didn't want to adjust my mirrors when I first got in because it looks so cool.

Oh, and of course the big ass is awesome! The Z51 looks like a Barbie car in comparison.

I noticed the grill isn't carbon flash anymore! It's just gloss black, which is fine. I could barely notice anyway.

Is there a way I can adjust mag ride setting independent of stability control? I'd like to have track level stiffness but street level TC.

Downsides:
The front wheel spats are cheap, ugly afterthoughts. They should have made fenders with wider wheel arches like the C6.

I've been thinking of taking the plunge myself.... but my z51 is a 16 and well equipped but no mag ride..... dealers want 20k on top for a car that msrp is 4000 different... Good luck with yours ! I'll wait for the deal to sweeten and swoop in

I traded my 2016 1LT Z51 w/ 11k miles for a 2017 1LT GS (only option was $2k wheels) + $15k. MSRP is about $8-9k different

My Z51 had no options except Z51 and red calipers/black wheels. I added carbon dash but I doubt that changes anything. Oh, and mine was in a wreck which I disclosed.

Mag ride is my favorite feature with my Z51.

LT4CMG 06-22-2017 04:23 PM

Awesome, glad to hear it. Happy driving/tracking sir. PICS please. And to answer your mag ride question, I use track/dry, if I'm understanding you correctly, but Foosh can give you the best answer on that. He knows it well.

PS. I added those QP vent covers on my Z51 a couple weeks back and got yelled at by my wife for focusing on those in the rear view mirrors as opposed to traffic. You're right, they're awesome.

Congrats! I was looking for a Z06 or GS and opted to go GS and I am satisfied.

Supersonic 427 06-22-2017 04:43 PM

Congrats on the new GS.

village idiot 06-22-2017 04:53 PM

LOL! My insurance went down by $600/year!

$3k/yr to $2400 (I max out almost everything). I guess those bigger brakes really help out

I was expecting to get raped considering this was a higher performance version AND I've made 3 claims in the past 6 months. Granted, none were my fault, but one was with an uninsured driver and my insurance is paying for shoulder surgery and $10k worth of repairs to my rental car.

djnice 06-22-2017 04:53 PM

Congrats.

Can't remember if you were pro or anti (so many arguments on this forum about ppf andcatch cans), but time to kick in a couple extra grand to get some XPEL. :leaving:

Sounds like you already have been.

Ewww. I'm so glad they did not. It would look knock-kneed with inset tires. The spats are there to give you the aerodynamic advantage of wider fenders without the tires looking goofy.

sam90lx 06-22-2017 07:06 PM

 If the spats are 1 inch wide, and GM would have added 1 inch more to the existing fender... how is this knee knocked:crazy2:

I will tell you, they cheaped out and used C7 fenders instead of building proper Z06 and GS fenders.

OnPoint 06-22-2017 07:10 PM

The C6 ZR doesn't look knock kneed with the same exact width of front wheel as the C7 GS/Z.

It just has a proper front fender.

I think the only way to adjust stability control, besides turning it off, is in PTM mode which is still linked to the MRC. Assuming PTM Dry is the same as default Tr(ack) mode, the MRC is actually at Sport stiffness according to table below from "Ask Tadge":

If you really mean Track stiffness in MRC, it appears you need to be in PTM Sport 1 or higher.

However, this seems to indicate Tr(ack) mode may be different from PTM Dry and could be the mode you're looking for:

The Z/GS fenders are wider than C7 Stingray fenders plus they have the spats in addition. GM learned from the mistake they made on the C6.

Wow that is great! Funny mine went down a very little from my '16 Stingray to the Grand Sport. Now going from the Grand Sport to a Z06 it will go up $411 for 6 months.

djnice 06-22-2017 08:15 PM

That insurance thing is weird. That's something I didn't check yet going to Z06. Shoot.
