1984 cross fire project

hello this is my new project it has been heavily modified but im going to try my best to bring this thing back. The p.o. used aftermarket valve covers and had burnt off his harness for cfi. p.o did not want to fix because he said he doesn't fix cars... I can fix this with enough reference and time and a re up on flux and solder. I would like to put an intake carb on it though as I want this to be a minimalist build. potentially putting deleting a.c. and putting components in storage and relocating battery as well as future electric ps and power brakes for very clean bay. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...35a13579f3.jpg

Looking forward to your build. Any particular reason for opting for the Crossfire?

84 project

I've seen a few carb conversions on those near me. There's another project the guy started to put a 6.0 liter motor in but gave up. The car is for sale for $2000. If I had the room.....

yes these range from 0-3500 around atlanta if you are looking for any good deal on any cars it's becoming unbeleivable what the internet will do to bring prices down. as far as picking this car i didnt have any particular interest in cross fire I knew the differences but I just wanted to do the deal before someone else told him how easy this was to fix or maybe he knew and was done with it. he had it 20 years.

Nice!!!

Looking forward to seeing your project progress!!!

This should be interesting, goodluck with your project!

astrocko 07-15-2017 10:33 AM

thanks

thanks y'all, this is embarassing so I picked up a used performer intake today but the four middle bolts were drilled for some heads and I didn't notice til lager so should I look for another one or go with it.https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...96f6d1bd6d.jpg

That manifold can be welded to fix that broken spot. This car apparently runs (?). How about a few more pictures? What's under the hood?

What's your budget for getting this car in shape? Have you established a priority list for your goals?

good luck with your project. There are a few of us on here that have rolling/driving projects. its slow going but we are just as proud of our cars as someone is of their garage queen. After all, its a vette.

converting to carb but taking my time i already have carb intake and distributor just have to get pressure reg and lines in and remove old setup.
This has been modified so much it doesnt seem worth trying to restore for profit mainly bc the body kit and I have no original body parts. i plan on doing songle stage black with tad metallic maybe as it was black from factory. it runs motor and trans good but has more than 100xxx so not sure how long ill be able to go with it but looking to get this back on road asap, will redo interior too I have all the carpet so will remove and re cut or dye it. but for now just driveability would be the priority.

ghost rider body kit and rollover hatch kit, took off wing spoiler but came with one

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...fff04b590d.jpgroof was cracked so p.o wrapped it in croc skin, food is functional, and had headlights molded though.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...8fba8ab43c.jpgneeds paint and more paint
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...6599dc2ac3.jpgracing seats
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...b2a9803791.jpgthe good side of engine, heddman headers and full flowmaster, nothing big really just a lot of visual and sound mods by p.o. nothing done to preserve or restore the car lol
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e163b11852.jpgeither its because he painted the intake cover and it dripped and caught fire or most likely those aftermarket valve covers

If you got it running after that fire damage, you're doing good! Since you've got it running, why are you converting it to a carb? That's a lot of work and expense for a very questionable benefit. It's doubtful that you'll get any more power, and I can guarantee that you'll get poorer gas mileage! The Cross-Fire can run good if it's set up right! These SBC engines will run a long time! 100,000 miles isn't a problem! My timing chain/gears went at 180,000 miles, and I now have 240,000 miles on my '84!

I noticed that your hand brake lever is up. After you've pulled the lever up to set the brakes, push the lever down (without touching the button) to get the lever out of your way. To release the brakes, pull the lever up, push and hold the button, then lower the lever.

That car is a candidate for a Pikes Peak hill climb project:flag:

sorry for confusion motor and transmission are good but harness is burnt and the cfi so single barrels are so dirty and crusted it needs to come off anyway can use this while I rebuild that and splice harness back. swapped out intakes so problem solved now have this and 600cfm looking to replace valve covers now and having trouble locating fuel pressure regulator in local big box part stores? https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...c145de0349.jpg

astrocko 08-12-2017 06:07 PM

woohoo

i scored a late 90s buick roadmaster collector low miles, talk about a spare motor with lt1 and a trans for next to nothing! i will still profit from just the scrap value of car alone! now will have a backup for astro or corvette until I can afford ev components lol gotta love these Craigslist snipes. will post pics when it gets here.

Raidmagic 08-12-2017 09:01 PM

That steering wheel is something else.

When I was reading this on that day, I had no idea what pikes peak was. I was so I Inspired after learning about all of these kinds of races I just wanted to update you on this project. I have three ac-50 motors with controllers and an appropriate amount of lifepo4 batteries which I want to trade out for Tesla modules when I can afford it.(would shed about half the current pack weight of 750) The motors come from wheego life fsv so they are mated to a 8:1 reduction gear transaxle. I'm going with one on the front and dual motor on the rear giving me awd. Power to weight is looking very good right now. Because I had found a very cheap way to acquire this setup already I can focus on pricey things like getting carbon panel replacement, and a car loan for heavily insured carbon wheels lol.

Talk to MoBandy here he converted to electric knows all about it.

Thats an old Stalker body kit looks like. never seen a hood with the headlights molded in like that.

so many c4s in this condition...keeps prices down I suppose

astrocko 01-24-2019 01:38 PM

Mo was one of my inspirations when I got this for the engine for my Astro I was looking for something to do with the roller. It is full stalker, the wing is from something else. I have an email with mo already and he has been very helpful! The previous owner had someone mould those lights to the hood, I've been considering getting something flat made or fitting something like the later Nissan 300zx lights, they are very unique though lol.
