Do you miss your C5?
Yes, I meant to post this in the C7 Z06 forum.
I have a 2004. Black/black, 6 spd, glass top, 16k miles. I really like this car. Fun, no issues ever, still love the styling. I have a C7 Z06 coming in the next couple weeks. I was thinking of keeping the C5 because it's probably not depreciating much anymore, but having 2 Corvettes and a Daily Driver will be hard to justify. Anyone here have a Z06 and ever miss their C5? I will save a few bucks ditching it, but I wonder if I will regret selling it down the road. Curious to hear your thoughts. |
I really like the c5. If you have the room keep it, at least until you know for sure that you don't want it. When given the choice between cars you will likely gravitate the the c7 every single time, it's obviously superior.

I traded my 2004 Z06 for a 2014 Stingray, and don't really miss the C5.
It was a good car, but after 10 years things are going to start to break, especially if you are driving it every day like I did. The C5 was my only car for several years and I drove it to work everyday. The base Stingray has more HP and will out perform my C5 in almost every category. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...1ec0060245.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...cbf2d94be9.jpg |

Kept my 2002 Z06 when I bought my 2016 Z06 last May. Just realized I haven't driven it in the last year since the new one arrived.

I sold my C5 after I bought my ZR1. I sometimes regret it but wouldn't give up my ZR1 or my C7 Z06 to have it back. My C5 was a great car and had a lot of mods. I had planned on always owning it. I bought it new and it was my first Corvette. After driving my ZR1 a little bit, I didn't see a need to keep the C5. I suspect you will feel the same after buying your C7 Z06.
If you have the space, keep the C5. They have bottomed out in pricing and have probably gone up slightly from the bottom. It won't cost you much to keep it. If you find you don't want it after a few months and newness has worn off your C7, sell it then.

If I could have kept one of my past 11 Corvettes the only one would have been my 2003 50TH ANN. VERT! That being said I don't miss it at all compared too my 2017 Z06 3LZ A8 VERT and I don't think you will after driving the BEAST! What did you order for a color and is it a Coupe or Convertible? Congrats look forward to seeing your pictures when you get it!

I skipped the C5. I just never liked it, even though it was an engineering marvel compared to the C4, I couldn't get into the styling whatsoever. So I held onto my C4 until the C6 came out, and bought a C6Z.
Obviously thousands of other people thought (and think) completely differently, but I couldn't get past the oval tail lights, silly side moldings (granted, they were optional) and the rounded nose styling. No doubt a great car, just not for me. |

If you love it, let it go. If it comes back...run for the hills, because it's possessed. Lol. Give it the opportunity to find an owner who will treat it as there one and only, rather than cheating on it with a younger, more attractive version of itself. |
The pictures you have Don't do the car any justice:D:D. Basically the same as mine in Coupe form but I did not get the red seatbelts and mine is a A8! Here is a couple interior shots of the red stitching. The mats are GM mats with red stitching but you cant see it well in the pictures.

Whichever member posted about the c5 bottoming out on price spoke the truth. If any if you reading this can find a place to store it for a whole and use it sparingly (ncm insurance probably 200/yr) you'd be making a good investment. Within a few years lower meage well kept acciddnt freet will start to creep back up and as time gors on theyll be even less in rhat shape. They are definitely bottomed. If you have the space and time that is. Selling now is almost sacrilegious as you will get pounded.
when I was in the market for my first vette i was convinced I would buy a C5 maybe vert, low miles pampered for 20k or so back in middle 2013 when I drove a few I wasn't really impressed having already driven a couple C7's friends picked up as they came out. So I had to find a happy medium with a C6. After driving a C6 again, I looked at the C5 as outdated interior and the exterior was bulbous and all of a sudden the hidden headlights did nothing for me (not that the C6 was any better obviously neither was great compared to the C7). only C5's I would consider having now experienced a C6 (08 f55 npp) and my C7Z would be a C5 Z06 and i would only pick one up for HPDE. just hard to sit that cockpit of the C5 to. Cruise around in. Feels ancient sorry don't mean to offend. Was such a step up from the C4 but a step back in cutting edge dash tech. Something the C7 addresses in a big way. |

Yep....I do ( sometimes)
'02 Z.Only had 76k miles.VR,LGLT's and a tune. My favorite shot at the old Speed HQ in 2011 in Charlotte.I owned it 10yrs. My goal was to "thin the herd".Sold it,a 2003 S2000,a Honda CB250 and an old BSA Lightning Rocket bike. It sold in 2 days for a good price. \db2 |
Im on my second C7 but all c5s before these cars
Nope dont miss and to me look so dated lately |
Funny you asked this question. I just bought a bone stock, low miles 97. It's my 3rd C5. Feels good to be back in one. Comfortable, pretty quick, great on gas and they are great deals right now. Obviously the new Z is superior but the C5 is still a nice car to drive.
Keep it for a while and see how much you drive it. Nice to have another option to drive. |
No.
