rg's 2002 Z06 'build thread'
If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it Admins!
I just would like to keep everything in one place and document what I do to this... I recently picked up this 2002 Z06 with about 12,300 miles on it. Black with Mod Red interior. Mostly original, it had the following mods when I got it: LG Motorsports Super Pro Longtube 1 3/4" Stainless Steel Header with High Flow Cats Hurst Billet Plus 6 Speed "Short Throw" Shifter ( I have a new MGW ready to install) Vararam VRB2 Ram Air Intake System & High Flow Carbon Fiber Power Duct with Z06 logo Nitto "555R" 305/35/18 on rears and Nitto "555" 275/40/17 on fronts Stock suspension is rolled down on stock bolts about 1/2" Here are pictures of how I received it. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...908777aefb.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...d8ebf7f804.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...a7ad2ca06a.jpg |

Sweet looking Z man...everytime someone posts a black Z, kinda makes me wish i got black instead of red..
|
Man that thing looks cherry! That was my color combo choice when I bought mine and it has really turned heads. Great choice!
|
Nice choice of mods it came with. LT's, VR, shifter and a tune is all these cars really need to make them perfect imo. Would have been really awesome if it was an option when new. Thats all I've done to mine so far. That's a really nice looking low mile car, have fun with it!

Awesome looking car, congrats and good luck.
|
Very nice, clean looking Z man!

Thanks everyone! I was originally searching for a red one myself, but this one was too good a deal to pass up, and now I love the black.
Now I get to personalize it! Parts have already been coming in but I am waiting on a couple key parts to really finish off the interior. Eventually, I will have some sort of Chrome wheels on it, but I will be blacking out the stock ones shortly. All I have done so far is get the steering wheel wrapped in WheelSkins leather... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...3addb9f42a.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e2603c5e59.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...07cd37b8cf.jpg Get my Passport Max 2 mounted with a BlendMount and Wired in... https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2d5cc3d6d0.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...10f0ca3eee.jpg And get the front 3.5 speakers changed out... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...d4814f12e1.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e0a70e5680.jpg Lots more to come. My new seats shipped today. I have an alpine Nav Double Din to install, and the shifter is getting changed out with an MGW. |

|

Great looking car.. 12k miles!! Wow..
|
Looks great, you did good.

Again, thanks for the kind words! The seats I went with are leather Corbeau A4's with the dual sliders. Pictures will be below in this post...
This last weekend, I got more done on the interior. While the seats were out I decided to go ahead and do the rear speakers. I put some Dynamat in the front doors when I did those, and I am putting some around the back speakers also. The plan will be to use the original wiring and Bose Bass speakers along with the upgraded 3.5 and 5.25 inchers when I change out the head unit. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...17758f04a0.jpg Seats came out easy enough. It was actually pretty clean underneath. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...0752ce6e5e.jpg After removing the seat belt bolts and the 5 pieces of plastic trim, a bit of Dynamat was added before the new speakers were installed. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...553e0a4c06.jpg Here are the seats assembled and ready to be installed. I stripped a couple bolts before I figured out you need to mount the base with the seat upside down. Corbeau support was kind enough to let me know these were 8mm (M8) 1.25 thread bolts 25mm long available about anywhere (including amazon). https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...c62130a342.jpg Before I mounted the seats, I thought I would throw on the Aluminum dead and gas pedals. That gas pedal was tricky but finally got it figured out. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...d04f782ded.jpg All put back together and with the trunk separation panel put back in ready for the seats... https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e150047bd2.jpg Here is a side by side of the A4 next to the original passenger seat. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...28da94aa1d.jpg And here are the seats installed. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...8d793b92ab.jpg So far, I think the speakers already are a major improvement over the stock ones even with the stock head unit. I have taken it for two short rides so far, and I absolutely LOVE the seats. I am 5'10 about 175-ish, and instead of feeling like I was sitting on the original seats, I am definitely sitting in these A4s. Very comfortable and supportive. |
Seat mod is a great one, in my C5 vert went from sports seats to Evo X , you will find the car feels like it handles better as they hold you in place , no sliding about!
I'm going to put mine in my Z when it arrives.. |
